Well, we guess she's just fine with not being her stepmother anymore!
Why else would she be so candid??
Oprah Winfrey's former stepmother Barbara Winfrey, who was married to Oprah's dad Vernon for fourteen years, had some words to say about the television icon.
And they were NOT nice!
“You find out quickly where your place is with Oprah. And you get in that place, and you stay in that place. My crime, I think, was to talk to her like a normal person — and she didn’t like that one bit. Her brand is that she’s a nice, caring, generous, giving person — that’s not how it is — she’s controlling, it’s all about control.”
Yeesh. We've met Oprah, and we don't really buy it!
Still, the stepmother also recalled a visit to Oprah's place in Prairie, Indiana. And her claims regarding Oprah will most likely shock you!
Here's what she said about her visit:
“That first night, she didn’t have anything to say to us hardly at all; she wasn’t warm at all. [The next morning] Oprah got on to the intercom and announced, ‘Negroes in the house. Negroes in the house!’ She thought it was funny; I thought it was insulting. I’m older than her. I know what it means. She was reminding us of our low class.”
Wow! That sounds horrible! Although obviously we have no idea if Oprah actually said this. It definitely doesn't fit with the personality that she shows the world!
Guess what? The stepmother has an explanation for that, too! According to her, Oprah makes all of her friends and family sign confidentiality agreements! Barbara said:
“She has confidentiality agreements with pretty much everybody in her life. She has them sign their life away and she has them in her pocket — everything comes with stipulations, but she doesn’t tell you that and she doesn’t tell you what they are.”
These antagonistic feelings may stem from the fact that Oprah is attempting to evict Barbara from the house that she used to live in with Oprah's father. But that relationship dissolved two years ago, and now Oprah wants Barbara out of the house. The problem is that Barbara claims she never knew about that stipulation until Oprah sprung it on her!
“It was a new home so we got to choose every part of it. We signed so many documents, became part of the Housing Association. I was thankful of course. I never knew it was Oprah’s name on the deeds and that I was just on probation. I’m trying to keep it together but there are some days I just don’t understand how I could have made her so angry that she would kick me out on the street and think nothing about it. But that’s Oprah – she’s judge and jury.”
A rep for Oprah says that Barbara has put herself in this position, and Oprah has given her many opportunities to figure out the housing situation before reluctantly filing legal papers to evict the former stepmother. The rep said:
“As part of the divorce proceedings, Barbara Winfrey was offered the Chateaue Valley home free and clear to live with her family and she chose not to accept it. The next offer was to sell the residence on Willowbooke Circle and split the proceeds equally, which she also turned down. After several requests to voluntarily vacate the property at Willowbrooke Circle, the appropriate paperwork has been filed to have her vacate the property. A 60 day extension has been granted.”
We're sure there's going to be much information on this story in the next few weeks, so buckle your seat belts, folks!
It's going to be a bumpy ride!
