This is horrific.
A 54-year-old woman in Ontario, Ohio was captured on a camera, set up by police, stealing a toy duck from a 1-year-old child's gravesite.
The video which showed Frieda Kay Shade in the act of stealing went viral, and eventually led to the thief turning herself in on Wednesday night to police.
The mother of the deceased child, Jaclyn Sheridan, is still coming to grips over how someone could do such a thing. She said:
"I mainly want to know why. What gave you the right to think it was OK to do it? What made you do it? Why my son? I'm glad we got her. I think the only reason she turned herself in is because it was everywhere. I think there's no more hiding from it. I think if she could have, she would have kept hiding from it."
Her son that died was one of a set of triplets, his brother and sister are healthy to this day, but every year the mother places a toy on her son's grave and every year someone stole that toy. Police set up the camera to try and deter the person responsible, but obviously that didn't stop Frieda Kay Shade.
Still, police are not sure she was the one responsible for those other stolen toys. But they have clear proof it was her this time around.
Although the woman responsible claims she took the toy because there was a stray dog in the area, and she wanted to make sure the duck wasn't destroyed, the deceased child's mother isn't buying it.
"My son has been there seven years, and I've never seen a stray dog there. She knew what she was doing when she took it. We got her, that's all that matters to me."
Frieda Kay Shade is due in court on May 15th, and we honestly hope they throw the book at her for her terrible deed. She caused so much pain to a grieving mother, and that's unacceptable.
