Maren Sanchez, a 16-year-old high schooler, was stabbed to death by a fellow classmate after she turned down his invitation to prom.
She died of wounds to her neck and torso only a few hours before she would've been going to the dance at Jonathan Law High School. The prom was postponed after her death, but that didn't stop her friends from getting all dressed up in their prom best, in her honor.
They went to a nearby beach, let go of balloons and held up her prom dress, the dress she should've been wearing to the dance with all her friends had her life not been senselessly taken.
Maren's friends then crowned their departed friend prom queen!
One of Maren's cousins said:
"Maren should be celebrating at her prom this evening with her friends and classmates. Instead we are mourning her death and we are trying, as a community, to understand this senseless loss of life."
This is just so absolutely awful.
The fact that it's prom, a time for celebration with friends and classmates, this is all just that much sadder.
We wish her family and friends nothing but strength and serenity.
Check out the video (below) to see how all her friends gathered in her honor at the beach.
