A couple living in Rockwall, Texas has adopted a homeless 18-year-old — which led to a reunion with the adopted daughter and her biological big brother!
But the process did NOT come about easy.
Robert and Ara Hunt were initially very wary when a social worker first brought to their attention that their adopted 12-year-old daughter's biological brother was homeless and living in his car. They thought the 18-year-old Seth would potentially be toxic for their family which includes three adopted children. Ara said:
"We wanted nothing to do with him. We didn't know anything about him. We were afraid."
The 18-year-old's past was filled with sorrow. He had been in the foster care structure for eleven years, and eventually aged out of the system. He was living in his car when he called his Court-Appointed Special Advocate Virginia Barrett who gave him a temporary place to live.
She wanted more for him though. She looked through his files and found out this biological sister Shyann was living with a good family. She said:
"I went into his files and started looking through the records for anyone who might have an interest in him. I found that a family had adopted his biological sister, Shyann. I called Shyann's mother, Ara Hunt."
It was then that the Hunt family saw a local television segment about Seth aging out of foster care. That piece changed the father Robert Hunt's mind about the 18-year-old. The father said:
"I was just knocked down. I think I'm a pretty good judge of character, and I saw good character in him. I said, 'You have to watch this.' She saw the same thing I did – a boy with a good heart."
The Hunt's invited the boy to meet his sister and their family, and the visit went VERY well! Ara the mother said:
"Everyone just bonded. We felt that this was right, that he was family."
The family soon began the process of adopting the 18-year-old, and to commemorate the teen's new beginnings, he changed his name to Logan Hunt.
"After 13 years to finally find joy again, it's like having your first birthday. It's a heart opening experience."
Logan recently went to his very first high school prom. One of many firsts he's sure to be having these next few years! Here's to many amazing years for him, his sister, and their incredible family!
Such an inspiring story from such an inspiring group of individuals!
