connecticut high schooler makes history by becoming schools first gay male prom queen

Heartwarming!!!

Nasir Fleming made Danbury High School history last weekend by becoming the first gay male to win the crown of Prom Queen in the school's history!

And even though Fleming does not identify as transgender, he still feels honored to have received such an amazing award!

Here's what he said:

“I was shocked to see how awesome and supportive my peers are. I received a decent amount of negative backlash, so I was surprised when I won."

And although he was shocked to win — he knew that his victory was a major stepping stone not just for him, but the world!

Here's what he said:

"My main reason for wanting to win prom queen is to show the school, and hopefully the world, that if a spunky, odd gay kid can win prom queen, then anyone can! This message is mainly for transgendered people, because they seem to face so much backlash for simply being themselves. If I can win a title that is out of my gender, anyone else should be able to, including transgendered people.

I also want other LGBT youth that our main purpose in life is to make ourselves happy. Very often we conform to societal norms in order to be accepted, and it is not acceptable for us to shun a perfectly fine part of ourselves. We are the innovators of the future, we are the future and we can make a change."

Beautiful!

We don't only want to just congratulate Nasir — but all of his classmates, as well!

They played a big part in all of this!!

But for one night all eyes were on Nasir, and the moment seemed magical!

Check out the moment when he officially became prom queen down (below) !!!

Most gay men don't want to be called a queen, if he does not identify as a girl/woman, why is this an honor? Actually this is kinda of insulting to a gay man, they are saying all gay men are queens, should have named him prom king. I guess if it made him happy, but it does not represent the majority of gay men.

These attempts to feminize gay men may be the most virulent form of bigotry.

Its not about feminizing gay men, even though society portrays gay men to be feminine. He said it himself "This message is mainly for transgendered people". I went to this school and I know the kid, he's a wonderful person and the majority of the youth in my town are very open-minded and supportive. It makes me happy to see our small city's youth making an impact.

I expect President Obama will call to congratulate,
and tell Ms Flaming how very BRAVE she is
Meanwhile most of the kids graduating today have 5th grade reading levels

How to take away a girl's big night, greedy boys. A man for the queen, and a man for the king. I get it, but a young girl at prom didn't.

THIS IS DISGUSTING. GAY MEN ARE GREAT, BUT THE BS ABOUT THEM TAKING AWAY FROM AN ACTUAL GIRL. THERES SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE WORLD, LIKE EVEYRTHING IS BEING OVER CORRECTED NOW THAT GAYS GET TO REIGN FREE. LET THEM BE WHO THEY ARE, BUT GIVING THEM MORE RIGHTS THAN STRAIGHT PEOPLE NOW? THATS A LOAD OF SHIT. WOULD A LESBIAN BE ABLE TO BE PROM KING?? ITS GROSS AND DISGUSTING

I'm so happy for him! He's a huge Lady Gaga fan and she's probably inspired him a lot. And all the haters.. Oh my God. He explains why he was nominated as queen. Learn to read before you comment.
