Tessa Evans, 17-months, was born with a condition (congenital arhinia) which caused an abnormal birth defect:
She was born without a nose! Poor baby doesn't have a sense of smell OR sinuses.
"At first I just couldn't understand it, I didn't even know it was possible. As soon as I saw her face I knew something was wrong. I was in shock and I just froze. The midwife cut the cord before I could even say anything and whisked her away from me."
That's so awful! We can't even imagine how she was feeling.
She apparently said that the first few weeks after her daughter was born were "the worst of [her] life."
"I felt so lonely and helpless, I was supposed to protect my baby and be able to help but I couldn't. There were tubes coming out of her tiny little body everywhere. How did my little girl not have a nose? Was she going to live? Would anyone be able to help her? But ever since we got her home she’s grown every day, smiled more and the more she shines the more her differences fade into the background."
That's amazing! Because her daughter truly is beautiful!
Tessa is a happy child who is full of love and curiosity.
"She adores her big brother and sister, copies everything they do and despite her 'disabilities' is already a typical toddler who climbs the furniture and loves to dance. Everyone who meets her instantly falls in love with her, we just want her to inspire other people like she inspires us."
That's so wonderful, but it's not the best part.
Best part is Tessa's getting a prosthetic nose fitted later this year!
The fake nose will be replaced every few years as she grows and no it won't be a big rubber one hanging from thick, black glasses with bushy eyebrows glued to them.
