Woman With Half A Heart (Literally!) Gives Birth To A Healthy Baby Boy! It's Pretty Much A Miracle!

Shanelle Ragin overcame some major obstacles to become a mother!

Wow! Talk about defying the odds!

Shanelle Ragin was born with only one ventricle in her heart, making it extremely difficult for blood to be pumped through her body normally, and despite multiple operations she has had to deal with medical complications throughout her whole life.

So when the Maryland native became pregnant with her first child, doctors immediately feared for not only her baby's life, but hers as well! Dr. Anitha John from Children's National Health System explained:

"It's one thing for half a heart to function for one individual, but now she's growing a baby inside of her as well."

Doctors warned her that her pregnancy could lead to heart failure due to stress, however, she decided she still wanted to be a mommy!

Shanelle was put on bed rest for nearly 9 months so medical experts were able to keep a close eye on her, and on the day her bun was ready to pop out of the oven they were more than ready! Two months ago, she gave birth to a five pound baby boy named Carter and the best part is he's perfectly healthy!

Not only was Shanelle able to overcome all of the medical issues she's had, but she also managed to pull off a miracle by becoming a mommy! That's a pretty awesome prize if you ask us!
