Do your thang, Mila Kunis!
A Brilliant Army Major Created A Boy Scouts Troop In Afghanistan And Changed A Lot Of Lives! Check Out This Amazing Story HERE!
Talk about going beyond one's call of duty!
U.S. Army Maj. Glenn Battschinger is one extraordinary fellow!
The father of two boys was stationed in Afghanistan back in 2010 and was missing his kids and helping them with their Eagle Scout advancement.
To ease some of his homesickness, the Army Major decided to help some of the children whom he saw everyday.
After getting permission from his superiors, he gathered 40 of the boys around one day, and started to teach them the way of the Boy Scouts - including the program's pledge. He also got creative with the famous handkerchiefs that boy scouts wear by using material from parachute cords to replicate those knots!
"There were hundreds of children who swarmed myself and the other soldiers coming and going from the base. The kids wanted attention and needed something to do…The boys were quick learners…It wasn't long before they were learning about pioneering and first aid and building towers and bridge ropes…These kids are no different, really, than scouts back in the States. They're eager to learn. All they needed was a little attention."
Although Glenn these days has been reassigned to undertake a mission in the Horn of Africa, the Army Major stays in contact with the children from the Boy Scouts troop through letters, and he says the boys he taught write him every day!
That is how much he affected those little ones!
"I have kids write to me every day with tales of how scouting has changed their lives and that's extremely rewarding. I feel like I merely played a hand in introducing something good that would help develop leaders for tomorrow. I'm just so glad that it caught on."
We are too!
Hopefully, in the future, other American heroes in similar situations like Glenn Battschinger will undertake such a rewarding challenge.
If he changed these boys' lives with only a little bit of attention - think of the possibilities if everyone thought as this Army Major does!
The world would be an infinitely better place!!!
