This Family Reacts To Their Son Coming Out Of The Closet In The Worst Way Possible

| Filed under: Gay Gay GaySad SadViolence

coming out of closet sad family reaction

You're supposed to love and support your children, no matter what. We're just speechless and heartbroken after witnessing something like this.

A brave teen decided to come to his family, hoping that putting it all out in the open might give him some peace of mind, and hopefully change how his family saw the gay community.

It didn't.

The young man recorded his family berating and beating him as he tried in vain to explain that being gay is NOT a choice.

We hope the young man in the video will be able to find solace and acceptance elsewhere. It's so tragic his family chose not to support him, their own flesh and blood, in his hunt for happiness.

Wow! Ignorant and horrid parents. Hopefully they join pflag and figure out how to be better parents…ugh… this is a major reason why suicide and drug abuse is so high with gay people. Being supported for who you are is so important. Hang in there Daniel.

That is nothing short of heartbreaking….I am shocked one would ever think someone would "choose" to be different…..I say to everyone out there who is straight when did you choose to be straight…I know I didnt…I was born straight…I cannot believe a mother and father would turn on their own child in this way…this is seriously unreal…I wish this guy would post his face so the country could give him support…so sad

  4. 4

He can come live with me! You want to say that he should get far away from his family and never talk to them again… but then he doesn't have a family, you know? You don't want to wish upon someone to not have a family either. But it's probably the best thing in this case. Why do they have to be so awful? It's just terribly sad. I can't even imagine. I hope he finds peace, and love.

When people bring religion into the discussion, all rational thought is blocked. It means they are not willing to listen to reason. Mom says she has known he is gay since he was a little kid - then she says it is his choice to be that way. Does she really believe that little kids make decisions about their sexuality? They should ask themselves when they make the decision to be heterosexual.

My heart breaks for this young man. These " parents" don't deserve a son like him . 😢 so sad and upsetting

Right from this woman's mouth… She is more worried about what people will think…that she is "condoning" this… any decent parent would love and support their kid unconditionally, but instead, this woman is willing to kick her kid to the curb because she is worried about what people will think about her. Shame on her. I really hope this was just a poor reaction and that his family realizes the damage they are doing sooner than later. Nothing wrong with this kid. Everything wrong with the parents. What God do they believe in that has them turning against their own son. Ick. Ick. Ick. These parents make me sick!

Get out of the South, Son; the Christian Right is a dying breed.
When you arrive in NYC or CA, you'll discover new parental figures in the form of friends who are capable of love and acceptance.
Educate yourself so that you'll never have to depend upon anyone, like your parents, to house you. You'll do just fine once they're in your rearview mirror. They are toxic, Sweetie. You're obviously a survivor and you're going to reach great heights.

    That was painful to hear.
My mother in law once told me that if my son "turned out" gay that she would "beat it out of him". I told her she would have to get past me first. God' s word clearly says to love one another. You can't hurt people when you are loving them. You have to accept them to love them. I hate that this is happening and I am sending loving and peaceful thoughts out to all who are going thru this type of thing.

The one woman says she has known since he was a child that he was gay. Then she's had plenty of time to accept it. There is no excuse for physical violence. The one woman started it and he should file charges on all of them. I hope he finds a happier and safer place. Its just not right in this day and time. Things need to change. People need to change. Ex specially family!

Wow! That video made me cry. What horrible disgusting people. I can't even call them his family. I hope that Daniel stays strong and realises that straight people are not all like that. They are ignorant and stupid and have lost the best thing in their life, their son! :(

    14

And this is why I am in the closet, and always will be. Coming from a small town, I know this happens far more than many people think it does. Most of my gay/bi friends around here will never tell their family. Friends, maybe, but not family. This video demonstrates why. Welcome to small town America.

  15. 15

Fuck these people and fuck religion. "God's word", really? If that same God really is as loving as people say he is, this guy and many other boys and girls wouldn't have to go through this.

  16. 16

Unfortunately, you just can't argue with ignorance. These parents are horrible and they ARE NOT supportive. To their son, I wish you great happiness. Stick with the people who love and care for you!

I can't believe how surreal these parents are. It's like they are out of a made-for-tv movie. Daniel, I'm so sorry that your family is like this. A previous commenter is right, go to a city and find your people. Educate yourself, be successful in your profession, and live an excellent life. Maybe all this is happening to get you out there into the world to do amazing things. I don't know, but I do know that the way those people responded to you was wrong and against the true essence of their religion. God is getting you out of that crazy situation, so go with it!

This makes me beyond sick. If that boy is underage, I hope he is taken away from those awful people, for his own sake. I hope he knows how many people actually support him and I hope he stays strong. Those people should be ashamed of themselves.

    21

This was awful and I am saddened to see adults behave in such a violent manner, especially towards family. Coming out to your family can be difficult but it should never lead to violence. It is one thing to have different beliefs but another to completely forget morality.

  22. Shannon says – reply to this

    22

I don't know why people insist on saying it's a choice. Would you choose to have your family treat you this way? To have people think differently of you? No. If it was a choice not very many people would be gay.

Book of Romans, Chapter 1, Verses 18-27:

But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness…. Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn't worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles.

So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies. They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.

That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.

Book of Romans, Chapter 1, Verses 28-32:

Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. They know God's justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do
them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.

Book of Corinthians I, Chapter 6, Verses 9-11:

Don't you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people-none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

    Saint Timothy I, Chapter 1, Verses 8-10:

Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine …

    Saint Jude Chapter 7:

And don't forget Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and serve as a warning of the eternal fire of God's judgment.

It is ashame that his family did not raise him in a more loving and confident manner. It is ashame that they reacted the way they did towards him.

You are responsible for your child or children's spiritual, emotional, financial (at least to begin with) and appropriate physical well-being from before he or she is born until a lifetime.

They did not do a good job of raising him. He should not be gay. You are not born gay. There are common familial factors of those who are gay. It is because of insecurity whether one realizes it or not.

Homosexuality and any other mortal sin has demons attached. You need an exorcism, deliverance, prayer and to fast and if need be therapy including therapy from someone who was previously gay but is not any longer.

I tell you what it is better to get beaten the crap out of by your parents then to spend an eternity in hell.
Do some research on visions and near-death experiences of hell.
You people act and think you care so much about him. Do you care about his soul and where it will be when he passes away?
Stop and think about things would you? People go somewhere when they die. You do not go to heaven with any unconfessed unrepentant mortal sin including homosexuality. You go to hell. It exists and it is horrible and it is for eternity.
    Good luck.

There is nothing better in the world than being a mother to my son. The bond was instantaneous and the love I feel for him could never wane. I couldn't watch the video. I can imagine how horrid it is. I can't imagine turning my back on my child. If he were to come out to us, I'd love him even more for trusting us to do so, and I would help him navigate this awful world we live in. I hope this young man can heal and find an environment that will love and support him. I'm sorry I'm not wealthy or I'd run and pick him up!

That is pretty heart breaking! The family doesn't need to condone it but their reaction is extreme!

I am 46, my son is 10. No parent (myself included), would wish 'being gay' on their child. Not for my wishes, but from society - would make life harder. I would 150% support my boy and what he chooses to do with his life (as long as he isn't lying, cheating or murdering!!) Those parents only need to wish that their child finds happiness! I would stand up for my son and show him that I *really* supported him! And I would kick anyone who tried to tear him downs, teeth in to do it!! I hope this family can accept his decision in time!! It does not have to be like that!

While I do disagree with the mom's reaction to being told, I feel there is something going on there as well.
The end of this video wasn't about him coming out it was about lies he was telling and dragging his dad through the mud of social media.
I think people need to take a look at the big picture as well.
There is something else going on in this family that their fighting over on top of his coming out.

Re: Special Effects – Shut the fuck up, will you? In nature, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of species that 'practice' gay behaviour. So it was YOUR God that created them. Live and let live, instead of preaching texts out of a book that was written thousands of years ago.

There are enough people in this world that are very much willing to accept this young man and love him unconditionally. It is very sad that there are some people who can't see past certain things in life and rather judge than accept.

This breaks my heart. I am a Christian, and this is no where near the Jesus I know or the Jesus of the Bible. We've taken so many things so out of context and forgotten that the Bible is actually the greatest story of love and acceptance and grace and inclusiveness. So sad. So misrepresentative of Jesus.

    43

Wow. So sad. I am the mother of two teenage boys. I cannot fathom what would EVER make a mother disown her children. If one of my boys came out to me I would applaud his courage. I would be upset ONLY because he would have to fight THIS kind of ignorance the rest of his life. I am a Christian, and I so NOT believe that MY God would turn away from someone because of the way that HE made them. God BLESS this young man.

Wow, I am so angry watching this! I can't believe people would treat their own blood like that. I just can't believe they would make up lies and twist his words like that, then to beat him up. By the way, I'm pretty sure lying, violence and judging others are sins so they are 3 times as bad!!
