It wasn't supposed to go like this for The Great Wall!
Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou's big flick starring Matt Damon (pictured above) was supposed to be a big deal in the U.S., but it completely bombed over the long Presidents Day weekend — totaling only about $21 million from more than 3,325 theaters.
Considering the film had a $150 million production budget, that's a very, very bad showing — and remember, this is coming on a technically long weekend at the box office, with Monday's holiday factoring into the totals, too.
Then again, maybe it was an entire box office thing; the other new release
We're going to just be honest here. Fifty Shades Of Grey did NOT float our boat the way we wanted it to.
We really hoped Fifty Shades Darker would bring the edge the first installment lacked, that the chemistry between sexy leads Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan would pay off with some really sizzling scenes of hardcore action.
While it may've seemed like a risqué and/or ridiculous decision, the twosome knocked it out of the park when it came to their performance. The pair skated to The Weeknd's theme song from the flick, named Earned It. Oh, and Miz James even rocked a bondage-esque dress for the number.
Still, the duo didn't go over board as they kept their choreography and costumes modest enough to appease the judges. Smart, smart!
We can only imagine the executives over at Universal Pictures are thrilled about this bit of PR since the film's sequel 50 Shades Darker drops on Friday. Although, Vanessa and Morgan may have better chemistry on the ice than Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan ever had on screen… just sayin'!
Sadly, James and Cipres only took home the bronze medal, but they won the gold in our heads for their creativity! Be sure to ch-ch-check out the phenomenal routine for yourself (above)!
