Ricky Gervais and David Bowie were really good friends even until the rockstar's untimely end.
But as close as they were, the funnyman is now admitting he was totally caught off-guard to learn the late legend had passed away.

The comedian told BBC's Radio 5 Live that he had no idea the rocker was sick, explaining that they had talked two weeks before the musician lost his battle with cancer:
"[His death] was a total surprise. I was emailing him two weeks before, so he must have known. He kept it from everyone."
In the year leading up to his death, the artist had discussed his diagnosis with very few people, including his producer and band members.
The Office alum applauded the star's decision to keep his sickness a secret, adding:
This poor girl just keeps getting sick.
Tori Spelling and her famous family were having a great time in France until the star suddenly got sick. According to DailyMail, the blonde beauty first began to feel ill while staying at the Loire's Chateau Curzay with husband Dean McDermott and the four kids they share.
The momma-of-four was apparently coughing and felt like she had a fever. So, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum saw a doctor, who diagnosed her with bronchitis and prescribed her meds to treat the illness.

An insider explained to DM that the gorgeous gal only got worse when she went back to Paris, saying:
"Tori was really sick. So the family returned to Paris. But when she saw a doctor there, he felt she had developed bronchial pneumonia, and insisted she was not fit to fly."
The confidant confessed that the Mystery Girls star has been cooped up ever since the diagnosis, while her main man is trying to entertain their youngsters:
