For some strange reason, people still believe everything they read on the Internet — even though it ultimately leads to false hope, followed by self loathing and despair.
We mean other sites, obvi. Ha!
The sick and twisted cycle continued this week, when a fake report circulated the web claiming that Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly were set to film a sequel to their 2008 hit comedy Step Brothers later this year!
Fans went into a frenzy after reading that the comedic duo would be back to film Step Brothers 2 in Richmond, Virginia (or Sacramento, CA — depending on which sketchy outlet you read the "news" from) along with Richard Jenkins and Mary Steenburgen!

The sneaky hoax article also claimed that Ferrell was already writing a script with director Adam McKay, which followed Dale and Brennan living together in an apartment and having to raise a baby by themselves. (Still mad this sequel isn't real??)
Unsurprisingly, sources close to the original film confirmed the sequel won't be happening anytime soon — something McKay said himself just a few months ago.
Earlier this year, The Big Short filmmaker told reports that he and Ferrell haven't even decided on a potential story idea for the sequel, let alone started on a script!
So, there you have it, folks — it looks like this rumor is debunked and there won't be a Step Brothers 2 filming this year.
But after the disappointing reception of Anchorman 2, maybe this isn't such bad news, after all?
