Seth Meyers is set to debut tonight as the new host of Late Night and we couldn't be more excited about it!
The former Saturday Night Live head writer has brought nothing but laughs for years and now he'll be supplying the LOLz every weekend!
But, did you know that Seth is pretty much the definition of a sports freak or that he's excited to become the host so that he can return to doing stand-up comedy on weekends?!
But that's not all…
The are sooooo many innneresting facts we never knew about Seth & his upcoming gig!
If you're as curious as we were, then ch-ch-check 'em all out…AFTER THE JUMP!!!
Seth used to make T-Shirts for the end of the year writer parties with jokes & funny lines on them and during his last one, Taran Killam made shirts with Seth's face on them that said "Who will make the T-Shirts?!" Which apparently made him cry! Aww!
Before Seth would agree to taking the hosting job, he had two requirements: He wasn't relocating from NYC & he didn't want to leave SNL last May when it was made official, he wanted to wait & emotionally prepare himself to depart from SNL!
He passed up two tickets to the Super Bowl this year which was HUGE for the sports-obsessed star. But he did it because he didn't think he'd be done "crying by 5:30 p.m." since it was the day after his last SNL show.
Seth is a "big brother" type and he, reportedly, took Andy Samberg under his wing when he started at SNL. Aww!
“Seth went out of his way to look out for me. He’d be like, ‘What are you working on? Can I help you?’ Or ‘Hey man, I’m going to this party, come with me.’ My first-ever red carpet of any sort was with Seth. He said, ‘There are going to be photographers at this place, so don’t worry about it. I’ll just tell them you’re a new cast member and you’ll stand with me and they’ll take our picture.’”
Not only is Seth the big-brother of the show, but he is apparently the one who fixes things, with Lorne Michaels generally leaning on him to rewrite entire sketches during the hour and a half between the SNL dress rehearsal & live show!
Building Seth's set in NYC took longer than expected, but that's okay because it's located above Jimmy Fallon's & right near the SNL offices, so we can probably expect to see a lot of well-known friends (& characters) on the show! Yay!
Colin Jost, Seth's replacement on Weekend Update, is a close friend so much so that he was the one who threw his going away party!
If his & his wife, Alexi's hosting skills at home are anything to go by, Seth is going to be a fantastic host!
According to his Late Night head-writer, "If you go to his house to watch a game, he’ll have food, he’ll have beverages, he’ll have the biggest TV available and he’ll have all of the stats pulled up on his computer. He just takes care of people."
Once he establishes himself in the host's chair, Seth wants to start doing stand-up comedy again since he "really likes it."
He's close to both of his parents, but they won't be in the audience during his first week, but his brother Josh will be!
Seth didn't believe the rumors when his name was mentioned with the possible next Late Night host because when his name was thrown around to replace Regis Philbin, but nothing ever happened so he thought it was another false alarm!
Fred Armisen leading his band was not his idea, though Seth would love to claim the credit. Lorne Michaels actually presented him with the idea.
“Lorne brought it up as an option and it was one of those things where, when he did, both Shoemaker and I were like, ‘Please don’t be saying something that you can’t deliver because now the idea of it not being Fred would have been really hard to swallow.”
It took Seth about two weeks to say yes to Lorne's offer to host the show.
He's not the only famous person from his home town. Apparently Adam Sandler & Sarah Silverman both grew up in Bedford, New Hampshire as well.
Seth, admittedly, says his strength does not lie in impressions, like his friends Bill Hader & Jason Sudeikis, but in simply being himself!
