EXCLUSIVE: Creating 'Their Own Space' On Their Own Budget

Tanya McQueen for zitos
You know her from Lifetime’s The Picker Sisters and ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition, but lifestyle expert Tanya McQueen is also one proactive mama!
The décor prodigy and mother of 4, known for her cost efficient at home makeovers, says creating a space of their own is a project with a learning experience twist.
Tanya explains to exclusively to Perezitos.com how building a space for the kids to play keeps them productive, creative and learning.
McQueen says:

“Believe it or not, it’s actually really helpful for children to have a sense of their ‘own space.’ It allows them take pride in something that (in their eyes) doesn’t belong to mom or dad, allows them to tap into their creative side, and serves as a fun, safe space right in the backyard. And it doesn’t have to be a full on tree house; could be a corner fort in the backyard or a small tent on your balcony, just something that’s’ theirs.”

Want to really make it hands on? McQueen says don’t stop there!

“Make it a learning experience! Because there are so many great, fun items you can pick up for bargain prices at Target, Walmart, Kmart, Big Lots, etc., assign them a small budget to go shopping with. Let them pick what they want, minding the budget, and let them have fun with it. This will allow them to learn how to budget money, see the value of a “Sale” and then once they’re out of money… that’s it, kiddos.”
