9 11 hero dog honored like true american hero

Bretange (pronounced like "Britney") is a real American hero dog!

She's a 15-year-old golden retriever, and she's believed to be the last living 9/11 search and rescue dog.

Bretange and her owner, Denise Corliss, went on their first deployment 13 years ago today: to ground zero of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The most tear jerky thing isn't the search work that Bretange did at ground zero, though.

It was the

Boston Airport Apologizes For Holding A Fire Drill Involving Burning Plane On 9/11 Anniversary!

drill3(1)

Ugh. We…can't…even…

Officials at Boston's Logan Airport issued an apology after goofing big time!

Massachusetts Port Authority decided to hold a full scale fire drill at the airport in question, with smoke and flames and literally a mock plane on fire, on the 12th anniversary of 9/11.

We'll let those of you who were drinking while reading that last sentence continue your spit-taking for the next 3-5 minutes.

In their defense, Logan Airport tweeted that the smoke and fire were part of a drill, but not in their defense, who follows airports on Twitter?!

Meanwhile, Logan Airport's Facebook page received dozens of complaints, including one from an upset person who had this to say on the faux-pas:

"That is ridiculous. Have some respect. People died 12 years ago on flights originating out of your airport. How dare you."

Yeah, the last thing any traveler wants to see on 9/11 is smoke and fire on any airfield! What the shizz were they thinking?!

By noon today, Massachusetts Port Authority wised up and issued this apology:

Former NY Ranger Mark Messier Running NYC Marathon For 9/11 Charity

Mark Messier

In September of 2001, the New York Rangers were scheduled to hold training camp at Chelsea Piers in NYC and stay in the Marriot Hotel at the World Trade Center.

Fortunately for the 60-man roster, including NHL Hall of Famer Mark Messier, the dressing rooms weren’t adequate and the team was moved to Madison Square Garden. When tragedy struck on one of the darkest days in American history, the NHL team realized they could have just as easily lost their lives on 9/11.

Ten years later, Mark Messier is honoring the families of the victims who could not avoid perishing with the Twin Towers. The retired athlete is running the New York City Marathon on behalf of Tomorrow’s Children Fund, which benefits the wives and widows of the attacks.

Speaking on his commitment to giving back to the victim's families, Messier said:

Cake Boss Planning Tropical Cake For Vow Renewals

Cake Boss

Aww! How romantic!

Cake Boss baker Buddy Valastro recently surprised his wife, Lisa, with a marriage renewal proposal and is planning a cake to reflect the occasion.

The pair first wed in October of 2001, but Buddy feels the tragic events that shook the nation just a month before put a damper on the ceremony, as he explained:

"We got married in October 2001, less than a month away from Sept. 11 and as joyous an occasion as it was, everybody had a piece of their heart ripped out."

His wife was even too scared to get on a plane for their planned Hawaiian honeymoon! To make up for it, the couple will celebrate their 10th anniversary on October 14th during a tropical renewal ceremony.

"The cake is going to be a bit tropical with seashells and lace details," he told sources.

Of course, the TLC star will be baking it himself too, continuing:

"I was tempted to make a replica of my first wedding cake but that would be too easy. I'm a better baker now. It has to be to be special."

Congrats on ten years of happiness, guys! We hope it lasts a lifetime!
