Luckily she's OK now!
A man was arrested this past Monday and charged with vulnerable adult neglect after he left his mother in a hot truck for almost five hours!
And his mother was 98-years-old!
67-year-old Dwight Ridgeway McGinnis Jr., from Raleigh, North Carolina, really should've known better when he left his mother in his truck in a parking garage to go to the Maryland Live Casino. The senior citizen may have been there even longer than she had been if it wasn't for a passerby who spotted her and called the proper authorities.
When police arrived they noticed there was NO food or water in the red Ford truck and the only sign of any kind of beverage was an empty soda can. The temperature inside the vehicle was about 81 degrees.
Although emergency responders determined that McGinnis’s mother was not in medical distress - they did confirm that the mother, who uses a wheelchair, is not able to provide for herself and thus depends on her son.
The police roused McGinnis out of the casino with a phone call where they promptly arrested him on the aforementioned charge, and also because of a previous warrant against him for failing to show up to court after being cited for driving without a license.
Hopefully this man's mother will get the proper care she needs from now on, and the person responsible for her won't leave her hanging in a dangerous situation just to go gamble!
