Robin Thicke & Pharrell Will Pay Millions Less Over Blurred Lines — But It's Not The Result They Wanted!

no title

Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams may not be celebrating victory in their Blurred Lines case — but they do have some good news.

After a jury awarded the family of the late Marvin Gaye with a verdict of $7.4 million in their copyright infringement suit over similarities to the song Got To Give It Up, a judge has only mostly upheld the ruling.

While there won't be a new trial as Robin and Pharrell's legal team requested, the judge did lessen the total money owed to $5.3 million.

Williams has the most to be Happy about; he was ruled as only a "practical partner" to Thicke and liable only for his share of profits. He went from having to pay $1.6 mil to $357,000.

The judge also denied the Gaye family's request to block Blurred Lines from further distribution, instead giving them 50% of future songwriting royalties.

While this is somewhat good news, Robin and Pharrell still attest the song shouldn't be ruled as copyright infringement at all, and many in the music industry agree.

Could this set a scary precedent for "homage" sounds? What do YOU think??

Doesn't seem like he thinks he'll end up in the same boat as Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke.

But that doesn't mean T.I. won't have to show up to court to defend himself!

The rapper was recently named in a new lawsuit from Marvin Gaye's family who want the ruling judge to "correct" their decision to include not just Pharrell and Thicke in their Blurred Lines lawsuit but T.I. and all of the music labels involved, as well!

But T.I. recently shared his feelings on being named in this copyright infringement case and it sounds like he's pretty secure in the knowledge that he didn't steal anything and thus does NOT owe anybody anything!

Robin Thicke already had to pay $7.4 million to Marvin Gaye's family after a jury decided his and Pharrell Williams' hit Blurred Lines infringed on the copyright of Got To Give It Up.

But this legal battle is far from over — and it looks like it's just getting dirtier!

Apparently the Gaye family are now trying to retroactively add on to their big win, claiming that rapper T.I. and Interscope Records should pay up too!

It's a move that Thicke's lawyers are — in no uncertain terms — slamming the fudge out of!

In an official statement, they called the move

Some lose while others win.

That was the case on Tuesday when Robin Thicke and Pharrell lost their court battle against Marvin Gaye's family and were ordered to fork over $7+ million to the late singer's family for using direct elements of Gaye's song Got To Give It Up in Thicke's song Blurred Lines.

Well, Marvin's family recently talked about how it felt to hear that court verdict read out loud and much more!

What a terrible way to end a terrible year.

Robin Thicke hasn't had the best luck during these past 12 months, and it looks like the start to his 38th go around the sun isn't starting off much better.

That's because Robin and Pharrell just lost their Blurred Lines copyright lawsuit to Marvin Gaye on Tuesday… which also happens to be Robin's birthday.

Despite his musical defense, along with Pharrell, T.I., and even Paula Patton taking the stand, the jury found that the men behind the controversial song owe Marvin's estate $7.3 million!

Inneresting…

Blurred Lines may have been the most misogynistic song of 2013, but it was also undoubtedly a moneymaker.

In fact, Robin Thicke's date rape anthem No. 1 song earned him a staggering $5,658,214, while featured artist Pharrell walked away with a measly $5,153,457.

And while the song saw a lot of profit for Paula Patton's ex, that may not be the case for long!
