Last week, a fatal California highway accident ejected Richard Pananian out of his car and sent him flying — leaving his body suspended on a freeway sign for hours.
Five days earlier, the family of the 20-year-old performed a sacrificial ceremony for him for "protection of harm."
On October 25, family members of Pananian performed a matagh, or a lamb sacrifice, which is a tradition of the Armenian Church to show appreciation to God for saving a live, or asking for good health.
Pananian's cousin Armen Kardashian said Richard had been battling serious health issues but overcame them — and the family thought offering the lamb would provide protection from harm or evil.

Five days later, Pananian was headed to his new job at Glendale Collision Center when the fatal accident occurred.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page trying to raise $15,000 for "unexpected financial burdens," in which the 20-year-old is described as:
"One of the most friendly, giving, compassionate people you would ever meet."
So sad. Our hearts go out to the victim's family at this tragic time.
