So scary.

We're so glad he was caught before he could cause some serious harm.

Just hours after the tragic shooting at an Orlando gay club that killed 49 people and injured dozens on Sunday, police in Santa Monica, California thwarted another potential massacre when they arrested James Wesley Howell as he was headed to LA Gay Pride with a lot of weapons and explosives.

Now, we're learning just how deadly that scary situation could have been.

Recent reports say that the cops found a loaded assault rifle that had been rigged to shoot twice as much. According to authorities, the high-powered weapon was loaded with a 30-round magazine, and had ANOTHER inverted 30-round magazine taped to it.

Former FBI agent James Wedick explained that this mechanism would have allowed the 20-year-old to reload another 30 rounds almost immediately, doubling his ability to quickly kill people.

This weekend, Pride concludes in San Francisco.

The SF Bay Area has the highest gay population among all U.S. metro areas, with 6.2% of its residents identifying as LGBT. Stars like model Jenny Shimuzu, Olympic champion Brian Boitano, and Jurassic World star B.D. Wong were all born in the Bay Area. San Francisco is also where Harvey Milk championed gay civil rights.

Whether they've been openly gay their whole lives or have recently come out, gay celebrities are often subject to the most scrutiny — good and bad. But this gallery salutes their presence and influence on both the gay and straight communities.

Repping For Gay Rights Abroad! GaGa To March In Rome's Gay Pride Parade

lady gaga to march in gay pride parade in rome

An inspiration, as always!

On Saturday, Lady GaGa will march in the gay pride parade in Rome's Circus Maximus, which marks the close of 2011 Euro Pride.

Here's what U.S. Ambassador to Italy David Thorne had to say about GaGa's involvement in the parade:

"[We are] very proud to have an Italian-American artist of her stature [come to the Italian capital.]"

More from Thorne about gay rights, in a quote from Hillary Clinton:

"Human rights are gay rights and gay rights are human rights.”

We couldn't agree more, and we're THRILLED to hear that our wifey is making the trek all the way out to Rome to rep for the gay community abroad!

EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!
