At first, it didn't seem like there was anything noteworthy about this particular #TBT image on Twitter — that is until one vigilant pointed out that Mr. Martin looks an AWFUL lot like one of the characters from his beloved franchise.

George R.R. Martin Breaks Silence On Game Of Thrones Spinoffs — Says Upcoming Series WON'T Feature Current Characters!

More Westeros stories are coming, Game of Thrones fans.

Though some are hoping for their favorite characters to return for the forthcoming spinoffs, George R.R. Martin is reminding us not to expect anything along the lines of Starks In Charge or Tyrion: God of Tits and Wine.

The series mastermind broke his silence about the GoT prequels in development at HBO and dropped a Blackwater-sized firebomb of news: none of the spinoffs will be about current characters — which is why he won't even refer to the new shows as "spin-offs"!

Posting to his blog on Sunday night, he wrote:

"None of these new shows will be ‘spinning off' from GoT in the traditional sense. We are not talking Joey or AfterMASH or even [Frasier] or Lou Grant, where characters from one show continue on to another. So all of you who were hoping for the further adventures of Hot Pie are doomed to disappointment. Every one of the concepts under discussion is a prequel, rather than a sequel. Some may not even be set on Westeros."

What!? No more Arya, Jon, or Daenerys? That doesn't bode well for our faves making it through the rest of the Thrones timeline…

Still, those who have actually see the Friends spinoff Joey will probably join our collective sigh of relief over this news.

Martin's update wasn't entirely disappointing — he noted there is now a FIFTH pilot script in development instead of the previously reported four.

Even better, he's officially credited as a co-writer on two of the four previously announced prequels — and is creatively involved on all of the series to some degree. He continued:

A Game Of Thrones Spin-Off Is Totally Fucking Happening, RIGHT?!

Game Of Thrones may be coming to an end sooner than we'd like, but that doesn't mean we've seen the last of Westeros!

Over the weekend, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss confirmed a few rumors about the final two seasons of the Emmy-winning series — along with any future shows that might be adapted from the fucked up mind of George R.R. Martin.

Appearing at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, Weiss and Benioff took part in a Q&A hosted by Stark sisters Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams.

During the sit down, the producers confirmed Ed Sheeran would be making an appearance in the upcoming season, and revealed that the final eighth season would only be six episodes long.

But that tragic news came with a silver lining when the writers were asked about the show's future, as the dynamic duo suggested a Westerosi spin-off was likely to happen.

Addressing speculation around a potential spin-off involving the surviving characters, they said:

Speaking to The Wrap, the network's programming president said they were exploring ideas to make more of the bloody fantasy world come to life, explaining:

"We've talked very, very kind of high-level, like, ‘Oh, that would be interesting, a prequel would be interesting, are there areas that make more sense?' But we haven't — no one has put pen to paper — yet. It's still pretty early on."

Though we still have two more years until the show's conclusion, this isn't the first talk of a spinoff to the fantasy phenomenon.

Donald Trump swindled his way into the White House by exploiting the most racist citizens in the country, leaving the rest of us to fear being led by a conniving man-child for the next four years.

Since few have more knowledge about unfit rulers and a looming apocalypse than George R.R. Martin, the Game Of Thrones author made a dire prediction on what's to come for America — specifically, winter.

Usually, Game Of Thrones fans can predict which characters the new season will bring based on who we have yet to meet in George R.R. Martin's book series.

But since the HBO fantasy hit has officially outpaced its source material, the casting breakdowns for Season 7 are that much more mysterious!

The vigilant Crows over at Watchers on the Wall have released the casting call to reveal the first look at who we'll meet when the show returns next summer (ugh, don't remind us).

QUIZ: How Long Would YOU Survive Game Of Thrones?

The batch of newbies includes a few violent hands — including a General, a Warrior, and a Lieutenant — a few guards, a new priest (anything would be an upgrade from the last one) for good measure.

And because it wouldn't be Game Of Thrones without some gratuitous sex, we'll also meet a "Lovely Lady," a role in which full nudity is required.

Ch-ch-check out the full descriptions (below) to get some spoiler-y Season 7 plot details — and catch ALL the characters in action when GoT returns summer 2017!
