Four Tourists In Malaysia Plead Guilty For Stripping On A Sacred Mountain Top & 'Causing An Earthquake'
This is such a strange set of events.
Four tourists on vacation in Malaysia plead guilty to obscenity on Friday after they were spotted stripping down naked on top of the sacred Mount Kinabalu peak back in May.
A guide on the mountain reported their leud act to officials, but locals really started to take issue with the nudity after they say the four Westerners caused an earthquake that killed 18 people for messing with the spirits.
Eleanor Hawkins, a 24-year-old Brit, Dylan Snel, a 23-year-old from The Netherlands, and Danielle and Lindsey Peterson, 22 & 23, from Canada, were each fined around $1,300 and spent three nights in jail… but things could have ended much worse!
Apparently, the twenty-somethings were potentially sentenced to up to three months in prison just for trying to take a fun photo.
While we think they should have been more respectful of a foreign country's ideals, we think it's a tad out there to blame a natural disaster on a scantily clad photo op.
Luckily for the now-criminals, they were reportedly flown out of Malaysia on Saturday morning, so hopefully they can put this all behind them!
