HBO Hits Netflix Hard! Signs Deal To Exclusively Stream Shows On Amazon Prime!

It's not TV. And for a few more years, it's not Netflix either!

HBO has signed an exclusive deal with Netflix competitor Amazon Prime. The streaming service will be the only (legal) place on the Internet to offer full series runs of The Sopranos, The Wire, Six Feet Under, and more classic HBO shows.

Perhaps more importantly, Amazon will also be the first to offer new hits Girls, Veep, and The Newsroom, available three years after their initial air date- meaning we get the first few seasons of True Blood right now!

This is great news for Amazon, whose new Fire TV platform will also host HBO GO! It's less than great for Netflix, whose shares have already dropped 2.7% just from the announcement! Ouch!

You can binge all your HBO faves starting on May 21st!

You know, unless you only have Netflix.

Disney Back On Netflix!!!

Filed under: TV NewsFilm FlickersDisneyBusiness Blitz

Disney Netflix Reach Streaming Deal

Netflix and Disney, sittin' on TV! S-T-R-E-A-M-I-N-G!

Finally! Disney and Netflix are back together!

The two companies have not worked together since Netflix couldn't reach terms with the STARZ Network at the beginning of 2012.

But they reunited today and made a deal that makes Netflix THE choice for watching all your fave Disney films.

Right now, Netflix is going to become our eye into the Vault, with classics popping up on the service in a rigid schedule. Starting in 2013, all direct-to-video sequels will also find a home on Netflix streaming.

And in 2016, all of Disney's theatrical releases - including Pixar and Marvel movies - will be streaming instantly during the pay TV windows, just after DVD and Blu-Ray release!

Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer of Netflix, said:

"Disney and Netflix have shared a long and mutually beneficial relationship and this deal will bring to our subscribers, in the first pay TV window, some of the highest-quality, most imaginative family films being made today.

It’s a bold leap forward for Internet television and we are incredibly pleased and proud this iconic family brand is teaming with Netflix to make it happen."

The deal reportedly ended with a handshake before Netflix swooped Disney in its arms and put it on a magic flying carpet and sang I Can Show You (to the) World! LOLz!

Sorry, Netflix! EPIX Strikes Deal With Amazon Prime Too

EPIX deal with Amazon Prime and Netflix

Amazon Prime's instant video selection just doubled thanks to a new deal with EPIX, a video on-demand service that was previously exclusive to Netflix.

With an extra 2,000 titles in stock, the deal does wonders for Amazon, but already cost Netflix stock an 1%1 loss in share value. Now both competitive streaming services will receive titles from Paramount, MGM, and Lionsgate 90 days after hey run on traditional pay TV.

Following the expiration of Epix's exclusivity with Netlflix, the company isn't limiting itself to just two outlets either. Executives will continue to talk to other distributors for possible deals.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has said that Epix's library was "not a particularly large source of total viewing," but we wonder if his company can continue to thrive while competitors are slowly gaining the edge in the market.

Guess time will tell!
