Tupac's Mother Afeni Shakur Dead At 69

Afeni Shakur

Afeni Shakur, a longtime political activist and mother of the late rap legend Tupac, has tragically passed away at the age of 69.

According to the Marin County Sheriff's Office in Sausalito, CA, police responded to a report of cardiac arrest at Shakur's home around 9:43 p.m. and transported her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead not even an hour later.

Devastating.

As we told you in March, Afeni recently filed for divorce from her husband of 12 years, who was supposedly gunning for half of her son's estate. Yikes!

Authorities say a coroner will investigate the exact cause of death, but for now it seems to be an apparent heart attack.

We'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Shakur family during this difficult time.

Straight Outta Compton Sequel Following The Careers Of Snoop Dogg, Tupac, & Tha Dogg Pound Is In The Works! Details Here!

UPDATE 5:03 PM EST: Universal has denied that a sequel is in the works. A spokesperson with the studio said:

"At this time there are no plans for a Straight Outta Compton sequel."

———————–

Straight Outta Compton has been making a killing at the box office, achieving both critical and commercial success after its opening weekend!

So that means Hollywood is getting ready to follow up with more rap biopics! It's been reported that a Straight Outta Compton sequel is in the works — following the rise of Snoop Dogg, Tupac, and other West Coast greats!

Dogg Pound veteran Daz revealed that the film — reportedly titled Dogg Pound 4 Life — will follow the careers of Snoop, Nate Dogg, Kurupt, Daz, and Warren G!

The focus of the film will center around Tha Dogg Pound Gangstaz' music, but will also include gang violence and its impact on the rap industry.

Dr. Dre's son Curtis Young is said to take over the role of his dad for the upcoming film — a role that went to Corey Hawkins in Compton. As for the casting of Snoop and Ice Cube, it doesn't look like actors from Compton will reprise their roles.

Since the formation Dr. Dre's Death Row Records will be a huge part of this story, co-founder Suge Knight will be included. Though the producers won't be working directly with him since he is serving jail time after being charged with murder.

Are YOU excited for this Straight Outta Compton sequel?

Perez Reviews: Holler If Ya Hear Me, The Tupac Musical

What is the takeaway from Holler If Ya Hear Me, the new Tupac Shakur musical, now playing on Broadway???

We're not sure what the message of the show is - and that's not a good thing!

What we do know is that it's bleak, depressing and disappointing on so many levels.

A risky move, the creators and producers of the show decided to NOT tell the story of Tupac. Instead they told a story about gun violence and drugs that was not as effective or powerful as the Shakur songs used throughout the show.

Beautiful is beautiful because it's a real story about real emotions and experiences that we can all relate to.

Same with Motown.

Holler If Ya Hear Me, unfortunately, is trying to be a little too ambitious and feels extremely undercooked.

We didn't need a "traditional" musical about Tupac. Something bolder and braver would have been quite brilliant. An exploration on politics, race relations or a myriad of other issues (many or one) would have been much more effective.

The traditional musical NOT about Shakur that is Holler If Ya Hear Me is lacking the passion and vibrancy that Tupac had.

There is very little dancing, which shocked us.

And there's very little of everything. The set is lacking and the whole production seems like it was done on a budget.

Multimedia, video, illustrations - all that could have added so much more!

This show would have worked better in a small off-Broadway theater downtown… after a lot more workshopping and revisions!

We missed the spunk. We missed the light.

You can miss Holler If Ya Hear Me!
