Laurence Sunderland, the father of Abby Sunderland who was found at sea after being reported lost during her solo trip around the world, reportedly signed a deal for a reality show called Adventures In Sunderland.
Laurence is a sailing instructor living in Thousand Oaks, CA with his pregnant wife and their SEVEN children. A camera crew began filming four months ago. He says of the show:
"The show might be about family, it might be about Abigail's trip. It's something that was shopped around. We thought it might be a good idea if it was encouraging to kids to get out there and do things."
He insists that Abby's trip was not a stunt for the show and that "the wheels in motion for this trip had actually started when Abigail was 13 years old."
Neighbors say the family is pretty peculiar as they "rarely leave their house, and they rarely talk to neighbors." All 7 children are home-schooled as well.
Sounds fishy to us, but we hope they wouldn't jeopardize their daughter's life for the sake of making a few bucks!
16-year-old Abby Sunderland is lost at sea somewhere in the Indian Ocean during her attempt to become the youngest sailor to circumnavigate the globe!
She was reported missing today after her family lost contact with her. Abby manually set off two emergency beacons around 9 a.m. according to her mother and then her parents lost satellite phone contact with her.
"Everything seemed to be under control," said her father Laurence Sunderland. "But then our call dropped and a hour later the Coast Guard called."
"I had spoken to Bruce several months back. The same person who I spoke to on the phone, who really just loves their children so much and wants their family to be happy was the person I saw on television last night."
