Phased-In Teen Driving Is A Smart Tool, Could Save 2,000 Lives

Driving is a privilege, not a right!

That's what all teenagers hear when they learn how to drive.

It's true though!

And if more states implemented phased-in teen driving programs, the U.S. could save over 2,000 lives a year.

If driving privileges are phased in so that beginners are restricted to only lower-risk driving situations, the roads will be safer and parents will be happier.

The National Safety Council agrees:

"We knew that when states pass good laws, lives are saved and a lot of money is saved. We'd just never done the analysis."

The sad thing is that vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens. Drivers between the ages of 16 and 19 are four times more likely than older drivers to crash.

So far, New York and Delaware are the only states that use effective programs that reward beginner drivers as they gain experience and maturity. That's impressive. All states should be required to enforce the same laws.

Even 17-year-old Justin Bieber, who doesn't mind driving around with a Yankee candle air freshener, has been in a few bang-ups himself. If more teens were to be restricted to these laws, we all would safer on those roads…right??

Drunk Driving Incidents Down 30%

Drunk Driving down

Yay!!! The roads are 30% safer to drive on!

Drunk driving incidents have decreased by that percentage in the last five years, while incidents in 2010 were at the LOWEST in nearly two decades!

That statistic is pretty reassuring, as long as people were telling the truth. The results are from a 2010 national telephone survey of 210,000 adults. Respondents were kept anonymous, but who likes to admit they got drunk and drove?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has also

Prime Minister David Cameron Launches Campaign To Reduce Road Fatalities

Thank goodness.

Prime Minister David Cameron is joining Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button to launch the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety in order to reduce fatal crashes.

Road deaths are the number one killer of people over 10 worldwide, so action NEEDS to be taken!

This is a good first step!

Spider-Man Musical Actors Suffer Injuries After Stunts Gone Wrong!

actors-in-spider-man-turn-off-the-dark-suffer-stunt-related-injuries

Ouch!

Apparently, being a part of the cast of the Spider-Man musical can be detrimental to your safety!

An actor and a dancer in the troubled Julie Taymor/Bono collaboration, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, have suffered broken bones while attempting to do the sling-shot flying technique for which the webbed superhero is most recognized!

After Kevin Aubin broke his wrists last week, another actor came forward to reveal:

“I had broken my feet on the same move a month earlier. Kevin is doing fine though and took it like a champ.”

Lead producer Michael Cohl also issued this statement regarding the matter:

“Our priority from ‘Day 1’ has always been to put safety first. We continue every day to make the running of the show a safer experience.”

Unfortunately with shows with a lot of elaborate stunts such as this, there are accidents - especially during the rehearsal time. We're just glad nobody's injuries were any worse, and hopefully by the time it debuts all of the kinks will be worked out!

Thoughts??
