Ten Year Old Gay Rights Activist To Be The Grand Marshal Of Gay Pride Parade!

Amazing. What a courageous and smart young man!

Remember Will Phillips?

He was the ten year old who made headlines after he refused to recite the Pledge of Allegiance until gay, lesbian, and transgender people have the same rights as everyone else!

Phillips has made such an impact in the fight for equal rights that he's been chosen as the grand marshal of the Northwest Arkansas Gay Pride Parade this Saturday! Click above to see the news story!

We're so proud of him! It's truly inspirational to see a child with such an amazing and insightful understanding of a struggle that many adults don't even attempt to make sense of!

Congratulations, Will! We think you're going to do a great job!

Danny Glover Booed At Utah State Graduation!

wenn2783203__opt.jpg

It's unfortunate that people had to make this about him, and not the young people's graduation.

Actor Danny Glover, who has caused a bit of controversy as of late for his friendship with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, his opinions on climate change and activism in protests for the working class, was invited to be the keynote speaker at the Utah State University graduation ceremony. This apparently didn't go over too well with some people, who chose to attend the event for the sole purpose of booing the actor!

Ick!

The biggest source of disruption allegeding came when Glover failed to put his hand over his heart during the color guard's flag ceremony, which led to boos from the audience!

Glover later explained:

"I was listening to the national anthem and paying attention. I probably wasn't the only one in there who didn't put a hand over their heart. People have problems sometimes with what I believe and who I talk to. I try to respect people, honor them."

Luckily, the haters were for the most part drowned out by the cheers from families of graduating students and Glover supporters.

We're glad that he chose to keep the focus on his job as keynote speaker and not be affected by the dramz! We may not always agree with him, but we applaud his attitude!

These images just warm our heart.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie headed to Bosnia yesterday to raise awareness of the people who are unable to return to their homes even though the Bosnian war has been over for 15 years!

Good work!

Hayden And Her BF Protest Killing Dolphins In Japan

Hayden Panettiere and her clueless looking boxer boyfriend Wladimir Klotschko were spotted protesting the annual dolphin hunt in the Japanese fishing town of Taiji.

Apparently their presence along with other environmental activists wasn't well-received in the village and they were rejected for a meeting with the mayor.

Better luck next time! We don't agree with it at all, but the residents consider the dolphin hunt "a proud legacy," and it's bound to be difficult to break!

Sad.

Update! Lesbian Teen Stands Her Ground Despite School Board Revoking Prom!!

captjb1.jpg

What a brave girl!!

We reported earlier that a Mississippi county school board cancelled prom for an entire high school after a lesbian student attempted to fight a rule that banned her from bringing her girlfriend to the dance.

The student, Constance McMillen, returned to school today for the first time since the announcement, and despite backlash from her peers, is holding her ground!!

McMillen says:

"My daddy told me that I needed to show them that I'm still proud of who I am. The fact that this will help people later on, that's what's helping me to go on. Somebody said, 'Thanks for ruining my senior year.' I guess they would rather do that than what's right, what's constitutionally correct. It's a small town in Mississippi, and it's run by an older generation with money. Most of them are more conservative and they don't agree with it."

Poor thing!!

She seems like such a smart, well-adjusted young woman with a good head on her shoulders!!

Daryl Presgraves, spokesman for the advocacy group Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education network, says:

"A lot of schools actually react rather than do the research and find out what the rights of these students are. It sends a message that these students shouldn't be treated the same."

So unfair and sad.

We said it before, but hang in there, Constance!!

We know how hard this must be for you, but by holding your head up high and not backing down, you are no doubt inspiring TONS of gay kids everywhere to believe in who they are!!

We think you're a real hero!!

Denver Archdiocese Defends Denying Children With Lesbian Parents Re-Enrollment At School!!

Filed under: Icky Icky PooGay Gay GayPolitikLGBT

Yeah! We're sure Jesus would have stood by THIS 100%!!

Pssh.

This effing sucks so hard.

The archdiocese in Denver, Colorado, has denied two CHILDREN re-enrollment in a Catholic school next year because their parents are lesbians!

So UNBELIEVABLY effed up!! They're KIDS - only in kindergarten and preschool!!

They've already started at a school, and now they won't be allowed back because the church suddenly decides it's not cool?

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput says:

"The Church does not claim that people with a homosexual orientation are 'bad,' or that their children are less loved by God. Quite the opposite. But what the Church does teach is that sexual intimacy by anyone outside marriage is wrong; that marriage is a sacramental covenant; and that marriage can only occur between a man and a woman. These beliefs are central to a Catholic understanding of human nature, family and happiness, and the organization of society. The Church cannot change these teachings because, in the faith of Catholics, they are the teachings of Jesus Christ. People with a different understanding of marriage and family life have other, excellent options for education and should see in them the better course for their children."

BULLSHIT.

We're SURE every student in that school has married parents completely committed to one another and conform COMPLETELY to every single obscure Catholic teaching!!

Luckily, there has been a MASSIVE public outcry in the community to this blatant and hateful discrimination.

Marianne Duddy-Burke, Executive Director of DignityUSA, says:

"The Archdiocese of Denver has acted very unjustly in singling out this child for exclusion. Until every student's parents are tested on Catholic teaching, this action by Catholic officials cannot be understood as anything other than discrimination on the back of a child. At a tender age, this child has learned that Catholic officials are willing to inflict pain on children and families."

SPOT ON. So unbelievably cruel.

How are young children supposed to feel when the school they are a part of suddenly decides they're not welcome anymore?!

Jarret Barrios, the president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, agreed:

"These actions by the Denver Archdiocese harm the student by taking the child away from friends, teachers and community. It's deeply troubling to see any school remove a child from their educational program simply as the means of rejecting that child's parents."

If there's any light in this shitstorm of a story, Boulder Pride - which is a Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center - organized a protest outside of the church Sunday, supported by 30 opponents, most of whom were reportedly heterosexual allies of the gay community!!

We're sure the support was very much appreciated!!

We still can't even process this. Those poor children are way too young to have to endure that kind of discrimination.

So sad.
