Iowa Senate Sides With Animal Abusers

pig-iowa-law-bad.jpg

Iowa is trying to pass a bill similar to the one in Utah.

They want to ban animal activists from filming the animal abuse that happens inside of animal farm factories.

Senator Joe Seng, is siding with the abusers because he wants to stop workers who lie on their applications just to be able to get into the facilitates and film the abuse.

He said:

"The bill is mainly aimed at the people that are going in there to take down that business as far as being vegan, or wanting to find animal abuse or produce animal abuse within the chambers of the business."

Good thing there is a good guy in this battle against animal abusers.

Senator Jack Hatch said:

"It's trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist yet in Iowa. They are trying to prevent it from happening.

What happens if it's not in the ag industry, but you want to do it in the nursing home industry, in the hospital industry or the school industry, that's when their argument falls apart."

Lawmakers feel that the law will become law with the support of Governor Terry Branstad.

We really hope the governor gets some sense into him by the end of the week when he's due to sign the law!

Take a cue from Katherine Heigl and save the animals!!

Romania To Legalize Euthanizing Thousands Of Stray Dogs

romanian-strays-euthanize.jpg

Romanian lawmakers voted to make it legal to euthanize the tens of thousands of stray dogs they have all over the country.

The strays live amongst the people, crossing streets, sleeping on sidewalks and even riding on buses.

Even though most dogs are trying to just get by, same as the people, people have been killed in the past by packs of strays but it's extremely rare.

Animal groups have been calling for sterilization funding it seems the authorities think it'll be easier to just kill the dogs.

An animal rights activist said:

"It is a brutal law which will not resolve the problem of street dogs, but will line the pockets [of mayors from the ruling Democratic Liberal Party.]"

Many strays are tagged with collars, showing they've been sterilized, but they are still susceptible to being picked up, thrown in a shelter for 30 days, then euthanized.

So awful.

All those poor doggies. Let's hope Romania has a lot of wanna be dog parents.

Japan Plans Winter Whale Genocide Hunt

Japan whale hunters

Japan has said that it still plans to slaughter hunt whales this winter, despite pleas from activists everywhere.

They say they are doing "research" so nothing illegal is going on but anti-whaling activists say the whale meat ends up being sold to restaurants.

The Japanese killed almost 200 whales in just the South Ocean last season.

The Japanese have hired an agency to guard their whaling vessels during the hunt, but the anti-whalers are ready for a fight, saying:

"They will have to kill us to prevent us from intervening once again. … We will undertake whatever risks to our lives will be required to stop this invasion of arrogant greed into what is an established sanctuary for the whales."

That's what we like to hear! Save the whales!

Japanese Police Practice For Dolphin Hunt Protests

Japanese Police Practice For Dolphin Hunt Protests

They're working hard to protect the dolphins hunters!

Japanese police and coast guard officers practiced chasing a protest boat and arresting activists Wednesday in preparation for annual dolphin hunts that are attracting more foreign opponents to a sleepy fishing village.

The security drill with about 100 officers was aimed at guarding the southwestern town of Taiji.

In a mock chase in the cove, a coast guard patrol ship stopped the protest boat and arrested a pair of activists for trespassing and vandalizing the net.

On the ground, police officers practiced arresting other activists trying to block a truck carrying a freshly harvested dolphin. (sounds like a civil war protest)

Japan allows about 20,000 dolphins to be caught each year. Only about 2,000 of those are taken in Taiji, but it has caught attention because the town's practice is to push the animals to shore and slaughter them in shallow water, as opposed to harpooning them at sea.

So frigg'n sad!

Jillian Michaels Leads 'The Biggest Circus Protest On Earth"

Jillian Michaels leads protest

Jillian Michaels, our fave The Biggest Loser expert, has announced she will lead today’s protest in El Lay against circus giant Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey.

Ringling Bros. has a history of documented abuse and neglect of its animals, along with citations from the USDA.

Jill said of the circus:

“These animals should be allowed to live as nature intended—free from beatings, chains, and screaming crowds. Their enslavement by the circus means they spend their lives in chains and stuffy train cars with no freedom to roam, and they suffer painful, fatal ailments that come from such a stressful existence.”

Ringling Bros. will be in Calie for a series of shows this week, the same week that the Animal Rights National Conference is there, bringing huge numbers of animal advocates and activists into town. Coincidence?

The protest against the circus is being called “the biggest circus protest on Earth,” and the event page on Facebook shows 929 people have already responded as attending!

PETA Letter's To Comedy A-listers

PETA Letter's To Comedy A-listers

Someone's in trouble…

H-wood funnymen Kevin James, Adam Sandler, Steve Carell, and Jim Carrey were sent some strong worded letters from PETA today.

The letters, which PETA released to the Track, read:

“We’re absolutely sure that until this moment, you could not have been aware of the abuse and suffering that captive wild animals used in the entertainment industry endure behind the scenes, and we feel that it is important to provide you with this information.”

James and Sandler were specifically targeted in the protest, due to the recent release of their flick The Zookeeper.

Back in 2009, the death of Tweet, a giraffe who collapsed and died on the Franklin Park set of the film, sparked a federal investigation. Tweet’s scenes in Zookeeper were filmed at the local zoo, though he wasn’t a resident. He was transported from California’s Animals in Motion for the shoot.

Activists made their presence known outside the Zookeeper premiere last week in El Lay.

PETA staged an elaborate protest, featuring signs that read “Cruelty Has No Place In Show Business.”
