Even More Huge Changes Coming To American Idol!

american-idol-changes.jpg

Yup, that's right.

Not only are there new judges (J.Lo and Steven Tyler), but American Idol is being completely revamped for its tenth season.

Some of the new changes include an updated set and online voting as well as original songs to be written by hit songwriters and producers for the contestants so that they don't just have covers to choose from.

Also, going back to its original roots, the contestants will be living in an Idol mansion together. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe "was keen on it," a source says.

And that's not all. Other changes include faster elimination rounds, faster music releases, theme week makeovers, and even possible music videos to test out contestants' acting skills and ability to incorporate backup dancers.

Hmm, seems like they're afraid of a little competition (ahem, US X Factor).

What do U think of the new changes? Will U be watching??

Idol's Bowersox Outsells Winner Lee DeWyze

Another American Idol runner-up outsells the first place winner!

Despite coming in second place during AI's ninth season, Crystal Bowersox's debut album Farmer's Daughter posted higher sales during its first week than first place winner Lee Dewyze's debut, which hit stores in November.

Farmer's Daughter outsold almost 19,000 more units than DeWyze's Live It Up in its first week, selling 58,000 copies.

While the album did better than her fellow contestant's debut, sales were still weak compared to previous season's winners and runner-up contestants. Her album only ranked higher than first-season runner-up Justin Guaurini, which sold 57,000 copies and third-season runner-up, Diana Degarmo, which sold 47,000 copies.

Ouch.

Compared to runner-ups like Adam Lambert, who wold 198,000 copies of his album For Your Entertainment and second-season runner-up, Clay Aiken, who sold 613,000 copies of his album, Measure Of A Man, in its first week, Bowersox barely made a dent on the Billboard charts.

It doesn't seem like AI is really producing music idols anymore. Can the 10th season bring in another successful singer? What do U think?

Mariah In The Running For American Idol!

mariahaitalentwenn.jpg

Will she say yes????

We hope so!!!

Mariah Carey is reportedly in negotiations to sign on as an American Idol judge!

Sources say that "she wants it" and "she's seen what America's Got Talent has done for [hubby Nick Cannon] and thinks it will be a good career move."

And we agree!! Unlike J.Lo, Mimoo actually has the chops and we'd love to see what insane thing would come out of her mouth a la Paula Abdrool!!

Even though her reps are saying that there is "nothing to report," we're liking the possibilities!!

With Steven Tyler being an "all but a done deal," there's still just one more spot to fill…

If it's not Mariah - WE'RE STILL AVAILABLE!!

Sony Loses American Idol Music Rights

There's more shake-up going on at AI!

Sony has lost the American Idol's music rights to Universal Music Group.

19 Entertainment and Idol creator Simon Fuller struck a deal with Universal saying:

"With Idol celebrating our 10th season I wanted to inject some new power and weight behind our brand. We have been quietly delivering hits relentlessly for 9 seasons and Lucian Grainge and Jimmy Iovine's (Chairman, Interscope Geffen A&M) ambition, commitment, and determination to push the boundaries and go even further with Idol was very compelling. It is exciting to have the world’s biggest show partnered with the world’s biggest music company.”

AI has sold more music than any other TV show and has moved more than 100 million units in North America and 120 million songs on iTunes. It seems like Fuller wasn't happy with the job Sony was doing to promote and handle such a powerhouse as American Idol.

Hmm, we wonder how many more changes are on the way…
