The Newsies Stage Musical Is Coming THIS MONTH!!! New Deets Revealed!

newsies musical coming soon

It's been nearly a year since we last heard about this, and we're STILL very excited!

Back in Sept '10, we heard that Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken was collaborating with Harvey Fierstein on a stage musical version of Newsies.

As a reminder, the Christian Bale-starring movie came out in 1992, and it "tells the story of child newspaper sellers in turn-of-the-century New York who go on strike."

Now, Harvey has opened up about the Newsies stage musical, and how he's going to make it great - by adding more LOVE!

Here's what Harvey had to say about it:

"In a musical, there's an old rule: You must follow the love story. It gives the audience somewhere to go and someplace to rest their hearts."

We trust ya, Harvey! If you think that the stage version of Newsies needs more love, then we say bring it on!

The musical debuts on Sept. 15 at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ, and the official opening is scheduled for Sept. 25!

Loyal Newsies fans will be pleased to learn that songs from the film version including Santa Fe, The World Will Know, Carrying the Banner, Seize the Day, and King of New York will be featured in the new stage version.

We seriously CANNOT wait for this! Starting Sept. 15, the town of Millburn is gonna be SWARMING with Newsies fans!!! Ha!

Are U excited for the Newsies stage musical? Will U make the trek to New Jersey to see it? (if you don't already live there that is…)

Brooke Shields' New Musical Off To Shaky Start, She May Be Fired Before Broadway Run

brooke shields play opens to very rocky start

Not every musical is going to be a success, Brooke.

Leap of Faith is clearly a team effort, so don't worry.

You've got a variety of people to share the blame with, including the director, choreographer, writer, and other actors.

OR maybe it's the audience's fault. Maybe you've had consistently lame audiences that just aren't "getting it." Who knows?

Whoever's fault it is, Brooke Shields' new show, Leap of Faith, a musical from the legendary composer Alan Menken, is NOT being well received by critics.

The play recently opened at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, and the producing team is seeking to bring the show to Broadway.

Looks like the play's producing team is unsure about whether or not they'll bring Shields along with them IF they make it to Broadway, but then again, the playwright himself is taking knocks for this one too, so maybe they'll just replace everyone!

We saw the musical. Brooke was decent. Definitely not embarrassing. But we really enjoyed the show overall!

Did U see Leap of Faith? What did U think of it?

Newsies Is Being Adapted For The Stage!

newsies_dancejb.jpg

Well THIS is something to certainly get excited about!

In fact, we're shocked nobody had thought of this earlier!

Academy Awarding winning composer Alan Menken is reportedly collaborating with Harvey Fierstein on a stage adaptation of the musical Newsies!

In case you are not awesome and are unfamiliar with the flick, it's from 1992 and stars Christian Bale as a singing, dancing, and ass-kicking New York City paper boy in 1899!

Menken reveals:

"Yeah, it is in development. What it's going to be is — honestly, right now — undetermined. I think Disney is still trying to decide whether it's a first-class production or whether it's stock and amateur. But there will be available a stage musical of Newsies. That's all I can say. I've been writing it with Harvey Fierstein and Jack Feldman. [How it emerges is] just gonna be [a] business decision of how Disney wants to proceed with it. But yes, we are developing it. We're having a very successful collaboration. We're all having a great time. We already had a 29-hour reading…in May. I don't think Disney knows yet what it's going to be."

He goes on to reveal that they've expanded from the original music, and the stage version will feature "a lot of new songs."

AMAZING!

We're totally psyched about this one - but we can't help but wonder how Christian Bale feels about it!

They should write him a walk-on role! We just hope he's not "done professionally" with his musical days!

LOLs!

What do U think?? Are U excited for more Newsies??
