Study Finds High Blood Pressure Increases Risk Of Cancer

Blood Pressure

The largest study to date investigating the association between high blood pressure and cancer has turned up another reason to avoid high blood pressure in the first place!

After reviewing health information of 289,454 men and 288,345 women for 12 years, Swedish researchers found those with high blood pressure had a higher risk of developing or dying from cancer!

Men with high blood pressure had between a 10% and 20% increased risk of developing cancer. Similarly, men with the highest blood pressure compared to those with the lowest were 49% more likely to die from bowel cancer, lung cancer, kidney cancer and skin cancer.

The correlation between high blood pressure and cancer was lower in women, but still had an impact. 24% of ladies with the highest were more likely to pass away from cancer compared to the ladies with the lowest blood pressures.

Those behind the study were careful to note that it did not prove high blood pressure itself caused cancer, but instead maintained:

"These results are important from a public health perspective since a large proportion of the population in many western countries suffers from hypertension."

Overall, scientists say having higher blood pressure raised the absolute risk of cancer by "rather modest" degrees. Men with the highest blood pressures had a risk of developing cancer that was only three percentage points higher than those with the lowest.

30% Of College Students Relying On ADHD Drugs For Good Grades

Sadly, for many college students, the picture above isn't a joke.

Professor Alan DeSantis of the University of Kentucky has been tracking the use of non-prescribed ADHD drugs or "study drugs" by the student body and has turned up some alarming results.

Pills like Adderall or Ritalin are used by HALF of all juniors and seniors in college, and 30% of the entire student body.

Students have placed the risk of using the drug as "slightly more dangerous than the soft drink Mountain Dew and nowhere near as dangerous as drinking beer and smoking." The reality, however, is that taking ADHD drugs WITHOUT a diagnosis can cause "significant problems both in terms of thinking, mood problems, maybe even functionality."

Not only is a drug like Adderall habit forming, but the federal government lists it as a schedule II drug, meaning it has "the highest abuse potential and dependence profile of all drugs that have medical utility."

Students seem oblivious to the risks and insist taking the drugs help their performance. Believe it or not, they aren't alone either.

Some scientists advocate legalizing "safe and effective" cognitive enhancement drugs, citing that the "new methods of improving our brain function…will benefit both the individual and society."

We learned a long time ago (was it kindergarten) that you should NEVER take someone else's prescriptions and we'll stick by that!

Are Kate And Pippa Middleton Inspiring Eating Disorders?

Kate and Pippa

If Kate and Pippa Middleton want to inspire their fans in anyway, we're sure this is NOT how they want to do it!

We love to write about these two for their dedication to a healthy lifestyle, but the Duchess of Cambridge and her athletic sister have been popping up on more than just fitness websites.

In fact, the siblings have become “thinspiration” on “pro-ana” and “pro-mia” websites. The DISTURBING websites promote anorexia and bulimia by "supporting" sufferers with tips and tricks for losing weight.

Ugh, so sad! We didn't even know these sites existed!

After looking at a few, we're actually sick to our stomach that there people out there trying to find "acceptance" for an EATING DISORDER instead of getting proper treatment!

These sites have been around for years with Victoria Beckham and Mary-Kate Olsen serving as "thinspiration" in the past, but critics seem to be more concerned with eating disorder sufferers idolizing an international Royal icon like Kate.

Jill M. Pollack, director of the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia, said:

New Study Reveals That One In Five Gay Men In The USA Is HIV Positive!!!!!

Filed under: Icky Icky PooGay Gay GaySad SadLGBT

This is extremely alarming news.

A new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that tested over 8,000 people in 21 cities, found that one in FIVE gay men in the United States has HIV, and almost half of those who carry the virus are unaware that they are infected.

According to the study, the risk is highest among young, sexually active men and minority groups because they are least likely to know their health status, while the rate has fallen for heterosexuals and intravenous drug users.

Kevin Fenton, the director of National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention says:

"This study's message is clear: HIV exacts a devastating toll on men who have sex with men in America's major cities, and yet far too many of those who are infected don't know it."

Please, guys!

This is a truly frightening statistic!
