Cast Of Spider-Man Musical Fires Back At Critics

They certainly are committed, aren't they?

Despite injuries to four different cast members, the cast of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark is standing by the musical and firing back at the show's critics.

Tony Award-winning Alice Ripley recently said that the production is "embarrassing to working actors everywhere…Does someone have to die?"

However, one of the stars of the show, Reeve Carney says that the production "appreciates everyone's concern for our safety" and adds:

"It's an athletic event so you know that there's a certain amount of risk involved. The people on are crew are amazing; they care for our safety every day … we do trust them."

Ha. That doesn't sound very convincing.

Patrick Page, another star, says though that he wishes "they could be in the building with us and see the care [director Julie Taymor] takes and the care that our producer Michael Cole takes. I think they'd feel a lot better." He also says that the Actors' Equity Association is on set "virtually all the time."

Even Christopher Tierney, the stunt man who suffered from four broken ribs and three cracked vertebrae after falling 30 feet into the pit, says that he hopes to return to the show once he recovers. "The moment I feel I am good, I am back in that show," he said. "I can't wait."

Wow. Well, obviously the cast believes in the show and their production crew and is willing to go the extra mile.

We're not sure if we'd be so brave.

Actors Are Fed Up With Spider-Man Mishaps

actors fed up with spider man show

Broadway actors are NOT happy with Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark director Julie Taymor for continuing on despite several mishaps.

Here's what actor Adam Pascal wrote about Taymor on his Facebook page:

"I have to weigh in on Spiderman. They should put Julie Taymor in Jail for assault! I know what its like to fall and get hurt in front of 2000 people. It's no fun, but at least it was the one time it happened. I hope whoever was hurt is ok and sues the sh*t out of Julie, Bono, Edge and every other a**hole who invested in that steaming pile of actor crippling sh*t!

I think some of you missed the intended humor in my post, although my anger is real, I don't think anyone should sue Bono and the Edge you dummy! Or put Julie Taymor in jail you double dummy. I was making a point."

And here's what Tony Award-winner Alice Ripley had to say about Spider-Man on her Twitter page:

"SPIDERMAN SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF ITSELF. THIIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND EMBARRASSING TO WORKING ACTORS EVERYWHERE.

DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE? WHERE IS THE LINE FOR THE DECISION MAKERS, I AM CURIOUS."

We totally see where these actors are coming from! The production has had WAY too many problems.

It's supposed to open in February, but it DEF needs to be pushed back again. And if they can't get things under control, then we're thinking it's time they cancel it!

Do U think the show can be fixed or is it time for them to end it once and for all?

After putting a gay slur on her Facebook page, Broadway actress Alice Ripley is using the same medium to apologize.

She writes:

"Hey guys-I just want to say how sorry I am for my recent post. It was careless and thoughtless and I assure you it is not a reflection of the way I really feel. Anyone who knows me knows that I’ve always supported the gay community and will continue to do so. I’m embarrassed and I apologize."

Do U think she's being sincere?

Broadway Actress Alice Ripley's Gay Slur! Protest Planned

Tony Award-winning Broadway actress Alice Ripley is being called out by fans after posting a Facebook status update using the gay slur "fag!"

She wrote, referring to a critic of her performance in Next to Normal:

"QUOTE FROM A NUMB BUTT ON BROADWAY WORLD: "I'VE SEEN N2N 8 TIMES WITH ALICE RIPLEY, WHICH IS 7 TIMES TOO MANY." HA HA HA HA!!! THIS FRUSTRATED ACTOR (I WON'T SAY FAG) IS MY NEW BEST FRIEND! THANKS FOR LOOKING DOWN ON LOSERS LIKE US THAT WORK FOR A LIVING. YOU ARE THE OPPOSITE OF A WONDERFUL AUDIENCE."

Some fans are planning a stage door protest at 10 pm on Thursday encouraging others to bring "Alice Hates Fags" signs to the Shubert Alley.

She may want to apologize soon — and mean it!

As one commenter says:

"Homophobia will not be tolerated in the theater community!"

What an unbelievable honor!

The 2010 Pulitzer Prize for drama has been awarded to the Tony Award-winning musical Next To Normal!

Apparently, the board that awards the Pulitzers overruled three other jury recommendations for the award in order to honor the show, which chronicles a woman's struggle with mental illness and featured actress Alice Ripley as the lead!

Congratulations to everyone involved!
