Wow! This is a big change in direction for him!

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong started dabbling in acting when he appeared as St. Jimmy in his American Idiot musical, and now, it appears he's worked his way up to a role on Showtime series Nurse Jackie, which stars Edie Falco in the title role!

Tom Hanks and Billie Joe Armstrong! Who knew!

Though some other studios were actively pursuing the rights to the musical, in turns out that Tom's Playtone Productions will be producing the stage-to-film adaptation of American Idiot.

The details are still in the works, but Michael Mayer who direct the stage verision will return as the helmer for the film and Green Day frontman Billie Joe will reprise his Broadway role as St. Jimmy.

Hell! At this rate, why not just get the entire orginal stage crew and cast to come back! Might as well!

FYI - Playtone also has the rights to Spring Awakening. How busy are you at the moment, Lea Michele??? LOLZ!

The closing night of Green Day's Broadway musical American Idiot was a family affair for Melissa Etheridge.

The singer took her two oldest kids to see the very last show on and even got a sweet pic with Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong!

Not a bad way to say goodbye, right?

We're also happy to see nobody lost an eye to the massive spikes on top of Billie's head. LOLz!

For any Green Day fans out there who were not fortunate enough to see American Idiot on Broadway, there is no need to fear because producers are taking the show on a North American tour!

Uh-oh! She does NOT look pleased, and we doubt anyone will be spared her wrath!

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were spotted out and about last night in NYC with their daughter Suri, whom they took to see American Idiot on Broadway, and then to dinner afterward, but as you can see (above), gurl was having NONE OF IT!

Perhaps the performance wasn't up to her sophisticated standards? Or maybe the meal was less than pleasing to her palette!

Either way, it's clear that hell hath no fury like a changeling celebrity child scorned!

LOLz! We kid, we kid!

We're sure she was just cranky after such an exciting day!

Don't get your hopes up yet, but we think there is strong possibility that this might happen.

Universal Pictures is looking into making the Green Day Broadway musical, American Idiot, into a full-blown musical feature film. Nothing is inked yet, but we're hearing that Dustin Lance Black is being courted to write the script, Michael Mayer to direct, and of course, Billie Joe Armstrong to play the role of the drug dealer St. Jimmy, a role he assumed several times during the run of the show on Broadway.

Honestly, we think this is a great idea…if they can get Billie Joe to do it. No offense, but the numbers don't lie - audiences showed up in droves when Billie was in the show versus when he wasn't. The same will happen with this movie.

We think we've just found your objective, Universal. Secure Billie Joe Armstrong at all costs (and we really mean that!)

All good things must come to an end and the end is coming soon for Broadway's American Idiot.

Seems Billie Joe Armstrong had such a good time in the role of St. Jimmy the last two times he starred in Green Day's Broadway show, that's he's doing it for a third and final time. Billie will reprise his role on April 15th and run with it during the show's final three weeks.

Closing night (April 24th) is going to be explosive! We'd get our tickets now!

It had a good run! We hope he has a lot of fun with it as it all ends. Dare we say, we hope he has the time of his life! Ha!

Oh, we like the sound of this!

Melissa Etheridge recently wrapped up her guest-starring gig on Broadway as St. Jimmy in the musical American Idiot, leaving many to wonder who will take on the role once her successor, Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong exits the part, as well.

According to a poll on Broadway.com, the fans have spoken, and they want to see none other than Adam Lambert take the role of the nefarious drug dealer!

The American Idol finalist got 37% of the votes, followed by Katy Perry with 16%, and Lady GaGa with 12%!

ALL excellent choices! But we think with the Glambert's theater background, he should seriously consider getting his Broadway on!
