Donald Trump Defends His Controversial Decision To Have Daughter Ivanka Sit In For Him At G20 Meeting

donald trump defends ivanka trump g20 meeting

Donald Trump is clapping back. *Shocker*

On Monday, the President took to Twitter to hit back at critics who were upset about Ivanka Trump sitting in on a G20 meeting over the weekend. In case you missed it, Miz Trump briefly took her father's seat at a summit with world leaders on Saturday as POTUS had to step away for a sit down with the Indonesian president Joko Widodo and others.

Despite being an adviser to the president, this move was unprecedented as a leader's absence is usually covered by a high-ranking official. Don't worry, it's said Ivanka contributed very little during the meeting and her father returned to his seat after a short while. Phew.

Unsurprisingly, the Trumps were met with quite a bit of criticism for this decision. This backlash has certainly rubbed the Celebrity Apprentice alum the wrong way as he took to Twitter on Monday to defend his daughter's place at the table. The 70-year-old ranted:

Donald Trump is still having trouble mastering this whole handshake thing.

Since he's taken office, the President has received a lot of attention for how he greets fellow world leaders.

From his domineering grip being bested by Canadian Prime Minister/strongman Justin Trudeau to his refusal to shake the hand of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Trump's boy hands have become a dainty metaphor for the disconnect between him and his global counterparts.

And wouldn't you know it? POTUS's latest mis-grip came on Thursday during his stop in Poland while headed to the G20 summit in Germany.

After giving a speech in Warsaw's Krasinski Square, Trump went to shake hands with Polish President Andrzej Duda and First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda.

While his handshake with the President went smoothly, his transition to the First Lady of Poland was a total FLOP — as Agata bolted right past him to shake hands with Melania Trump:

Donald Trump had his most awful, most awkward press conference Friday morning, this time with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Holy shit, where to begin with this one??

Let's start with the first thing most people will notice the President lacks: common courtesy.

Either the international embarrassment of Canadian PM Justin Trudeau not allowing the POTUS to jerk his arm out of socket has put Trump off of handshakes, or he just hates Merkel that much.

Watch (below) as the press request a handshake pic with the German Chancellor, and Trump flat-out rejects her!

An international manhunt ended in a fatal holiday shootout Friday.

Earlier this week, 12 people were killed when a truck crashed into a Berlin Christmas market. This morning, the man suspected of killing a dozen and injuring over 50 in the public attack was shot dead in Milan.

Italy's interior minister Marco Minniti told the Associated Press that the man killed in the police shootout is "without a shadow of a doubt" Anis Amri (pictured above), the Tunisian fugitive being searched for in the Europe-wide manhunt.

According to The Guardian, Minniti says the 24-year-old fugitive pulled out a gun when officers on patrol decided he looked suspicious and asked for his papers.

After being pressed for his papers, Amri reportedly shot one officer before being fatally gunned down by police. The officer who was shot down suffered non-life threatening injuries and is currently recovering in the hospital.

Minniti said there was "no doubt" the man killed was Amri, explaining in a press conference:

TIME magazine's Person of the Year is here!

On Wednesday, it was revealed that German Chancellor Angela Merkel was named by the magazine as Person of the Year for her leadership skills surrounding the Syrian refugees and the Greek debt crisis. Color us impressed!

Editor Nancy Gibbs shared in a statement:

"Leaders are tested only when people don't want to follow. For asking more of her country than most politicians would dare, for standing firm against tyranny as well as expedience and for providing steadfast moral leadership in a world where it is in short supply, Angela Merkel is TIME's Person of the Year."

Well said! In fact, Miz Merkel will be the first woman to receive the Person of the Year recognition — though other women have been recognized as part of a group. Girl power!

However, you'll be shocked to learn that Donald Trump joined the Black Lives Matter movement and Uber CEO Travis Kalanick as one of the other finalists. Wait, really??

Be sure to ch-ch-check out the magazine's full reasoning behind the choice in Miz Gibbs' Today show interview (below)!
