Help For Hundreds Of Pets Affected By Floods In N.D.

YAY!

Thanks to the amazballz work of the NARSC (National Animal Rescue and Sheltering Coalition) over 500 pets displaced by severe flooding that has devastated the city of Minot, N.D., have been put in emergency shelters.

Losing your home must be horrible — we are so happy to hear the flood victims wont be losing their pets too!!

Shannon Walajtys, an emergency relief officer (who was one of the first the team on the ground), is happy to give this small comfort to the displaced families. She said:

“Many of the displaced residents are understandably pre-occupied with the burden of finding new homes in which to live, and the moments they’re able to spend visiting their beloved pets at our emergency shelter provide such an important emotional boost.”

We're sure it's more than just an emotional boost, it's a frigg'n a family member! But not all the owners of the rescued pets know their animals are safe. Josh Cary, team lead of the AHA’s Red Star effort explained,

“American Humane Association is providing a rotation team to care for family pets whose owners have been stranded by the flooding. Animal owners know that we will keep their beloved pets safe until reunions are possible.”

We hope they find their owners soon!

Olivia Wilde And Dog Take On The Hollywood Hills

Poor poor girl!

Olivia Wilde recently admitted that her only boyfriend these days was her dog, Paco. Well, ever since fans have been eager to spoil her furry man-friend.

"Is it sad, that my dog is essentially the man in my life? He's a great dog, but it's funny because ever since I mentioned that he was my boyfriend, he gets way more swag than I ever have. I mean, truckloads arrive at the house for him. When he hears a car pull up, he just waits, like he knows it's for him!"

This lush lifestyle is a total 180 from Paco's humble beginnings. Olivia explains:

"I found him through Much Love Animal Rescue, and he had been found in the back of a U-Haul truck with his five other brothers and sisters, and they hadn't eaten for a week."

And how he's dating of of Hollywood's hottest celebs. Hmm… taking all her gifts, not working for it, comes from the streets — kinda reminds us of K-Fed! LOLZ!

Teen Nearly Decapitates His Dog With Electrical Cord

Poor pooch!

Monterion Dionte Davis, 19, was arrested Thursday after authorities - incensed by a graphic photo of the wounded dog - launched an investigation.

Monroe County Sheriff John Cary Bittick said,

"It is without a doubt the worst case of animal cruelty I've ever seen, and I've been sheriff for 29 years."

The Georgia teen nearly decapitated his dog by wrapping an electrical cord around the helpless animal's neck and leaving it to die in the woods.

The mixed-breed dog was nearly dead when the animal rescue group Save-A-Pet found the wounded animal on July 7 and rushed it to a veterinary hospital.

Davis faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

But the horse is so beloved that his owners, the county's animal rescue team, and firefighters all rushed to help get Mr. Higgins back on his horse shoes!

The animal was so far over a hill that crane with an attached sling was needed to pull it to safety.

The rescue effort lasted about an hour. And dear Mr. Higgins is back in action… kinda.

Pilots And Animal Lovers Unite For 'Pilots N Paws'

Pilots And Animal Lovers Unite For 'Pilots N Paws'

Awwwsome idea!

John Quimby, an IBM executive loves to fly his plane recreationally. But John felt guilty and wistful when he would fly "just for fun" (isn't life hard?), so he found a solution.

Quimby has been using his pilot’s license for a good cause: airlifting animals in need of good homes. He’s one of 2,000 recreational pilots registered with a non-profit organization called Pilots N Paws.

Debi Boies came up with the concept after telling Wehrenberg that she wanted to adopt a Doberman who had been used in a dog-fighting ring, but was living several states away. Wehrenberg offered to fly her to Florida to collect the dog and bring him home.

“I was flabbergasted and in awe that anyone would make such a generous offe. But I soon learned that recreational pilots are as passionate about flying as animal people are about rescuing pets. And, since pilots are always looking for reasons to fly, introducing them to animal rescuers seemed like a perfect match,”

Debi explained.

We are so inspired by generosity of John and his fellow pilots!

Denis' bff

Awww!

Despite all her baby-daddy drama with the warlock formally known as Charlie Sheen, Denise Richards still manages to devote tones of time to animal rescue.

Richards, whose love of animals was documented in her 2009 reality show, It’s Complicated, has thrown herself into helping a local group called Best Friends Animal Society however she can. Silva Battista, the co-founder of Best Friends said:

“Denise is phenomenally faithful. She frequently comes down to the shelters to help us with whatever we need. She also sponsors animals, she comes out for our events and she really understands the issues. She’s been amazing.”

In addition to their animal sanctuary, Best Friends offers a unique program, Pup My Ride, which provides transportation for animals rescued from puppy mills and shelters to new homes across the United States.

“Whenever I’m in town, I volunteer for Pup My Ride,” says Richards. “They save 30 to 40 dogs that would be otherwise be euthanized and instead, places them into good homes.”
