Model Nicola McLean Admits She’s Too Thin

That’s a good start.

Glamour model Nicola McLean had her second child last year and has already lost all of her baby weight. Unfortunately, she lost it the wrong way — starving herself.

Nicola, 29, has recently admitted to having an eating disorder.

Said Nicola:

“I go for long periods without eating. But then I will eat, I'm not afraid of eating, but I don't eat normally. I don't make myself sick. I wouldn't eat every day. No way.”

Even though she says that if it weren’t for her surgically enhanced breasts she would have “the figure of a 12-year-old boy,” Nicola has no intention of changing her ways.

She continued:

“I'm not ready to conquer this yet. I have a strong mind and until I want to put on weight, I won't. And I don't.”

Nicola, if you have a strong mind you will do what’s best for you — put on a little weight! Being TOO skinny doesn’t look good! If you are worried about looking your best, put on a few pounds!

Half A Million U.S. Teens Have Had An Eating Disorder

Teenage eating disorders

In a government funded study, billed as the largest and most comprehensive analysis of eating disorders, research shows more than half a million U.S. teens have had an eating disorder!

Unfortunately, the study also shows few have sought treatment for the problem.

The study's figures report binge-eating disorder was the most common, affecting more than 1.5 percent of kids studied, just under 1 percent had experienced bulimia, and 0.3 percent had had anorexia.

Overall, 3 percent had a lifetime prevalence of one of the disorders, while another 3 percent of kids questioned had troubling symptoms but not full-fledged eating disorders.

The research, released online Monday in Archives of General Psychiatry, involved nationally representative data on more than 10,000 teens aged 13 to 18 who were interviewed over two years ending in 2004.

More than half the affected teens had depression, anxiety or some other mental disorder, while sizeable numbers also reported suicidal thoughts or attempts.

Scary!

Co-author and researcher Kathleen Merikangas of the National Institute of Mental Health says that the results of the study actually undermine the seriousness of eating disorders.

We'd say this is definitely something that worries us! If you think you may have an eating disorder, please talk to someone!

Megan Fox Struggles To Gain Weight

Megan Fox Struggles To Gain Weight

Leave it to Megan Fox to have the exact opposite problem of everyone else!

Fox’s trainer Harley Pasternak recently refuted rumors of Megan’s anorexia and said that she has been trying to put on weight, not lose it.

Said Harley:

“Believe it or not she has this really fast metabolism. So her training is all about body toning and sculpting. With her its really about she’s eating enough of the right things. People thought ‘Oh she must be anorexic’ but she’s far from that!”

He continued:

“She gets frustrated at times because she’s like ‘I need to put on weight.’ So she actually weight-trains to keep on that lean muscle tissue.”

It sounds like Megan just wants to make sure she’s putting on the right kind of weight (i.e. muscles, not fat). Anyone can eat more, but gaining muscle can be tough!

Anorexia On The Rise In Children

Filed under: Icky Icky PooSad SadFitnessHealth

childhood-anorexia-on-the-rise

This is as shocking as it is horrifying.

Although quite a bit of focus has been put on the issue of obesity in children, a new study revealed that the incidence of anorexia and bulimia in kids has increased dramatically in the past ten years!

According to the Pediatrics journal, eating disorder hospitalizations for children under 12 went up 119% from 1999-2006, which many think may be attributed to the fact that pediatricians themselves may be influencing it - because they're attempting to dissuade youth from the obesity problem, who in turn become obsessed themselves!

If there's even the smallest silver lining, it's that kids have have a higher treatment success rate than adults.

Still! It makes us sick to think that this is such an issue in this country!

It's so important to promote a healthy lifestyle in children, and make them realize that they are beautiful, regardless of size.

New York Times Review Says Ballerina Is Too Fat!

New York Times reviewer thinks ballerina is too fat

OMG! This is terrible!

Dance critic Alastair Macaulay for the New York Times reviewing New York City Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker noted that a ballerina was too fat, saying:

"Jenifer Ringer, as the Sugar Plum Fairy, looked as if she'd eaten one sugar plum too many; and Jared Angle, as the Cavalier, seems to have been sampling half the Sweet realm."

We thought reviewers were supposed to review the dancing, not someone's stomach!

To make his comments worse, the ballerina in question, Jenifer Ringer, revealed in a recent magazine article that she once struggled with anorexia and compulsive eating.

Not cool, man!

She even left the Ballet after gaining too much weight and it wasn't until recently that she had the courage to return as a dancer with the support of her dance partner and husband.

Don't let this pompous reviewer, who probably eats much worse than just sugar plums on the reg, get you down!

Keep doing what you love and don't worry about your body image, Jenifer! Based on the picture above, we think you're an absolutely stunning ballerina!

Harry Potter Star Says JK Rowling Saved Her From Eating Disorders

Harry Potter Star Says JK Rowling Saved Her From Eating Disorders

The actress who played Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films interacted with JK Rowling before she was ever cast for the movies.

When Evanna Lynch was 11 she wrote JK Rowling begging for help with anorexia.

Said Evanna:

"I told her the books gave me hope, particularly Luna Lovegood. I told how I looked up to her. She wrote back and was like a counsellor. She told me anorexia is destructive, not creative, and the brave thing was not to succumb to it.”

The letter may have even helped her get a role in the films.

"I told her I'd love to be in the films and she encouraged that but said I'd need to be well to do so. In the end I think that's why I recovered."

JK Rowling is so amazing!! HP forevs!
