9000 Penguin Colony Has First Contact With Humans In Antarctica!

HUMANS?!?!?! What are THEY doing here!?!?!?!

A colony of 9000 penguins…count it…9000 PENGUINS…made its first contact with humans when a group of explorers found them in Antarctica.

Expedition leader Alain Hubert and two others rode snowmobiles across the icy continent to where they believed the penguins were living. Satellite images caught the colony in 2009 but there was no proof until the expedition.

The penguins were discovered in December and the team recorded video of the Emperor penguins!

Check out this mega colony (above) RIGHT NOW!!!

Rare White Penguin Spotted In Antarctica

This cute guy went informal in Antarctica, sporting a light suede jacket instead of the standard black and white tuxedo.

Even though sometimes being different makes it hard for a penguin to mate and be accepted, the researchers there didn't see any problems for this stylish guy.

We thinks he's the cutest of the bunch.

Check him out in the above video.

Unhappy Ending For Happy Feet

Happy Feet

Sadsies.

The real-life story of Happy Feet, the lost penguin who ended up in New Zealand, might not have a happy ending after all.

As we previously mentioned, Happy Feet was a penguin from Antarctica who got really lost and ended up on a beach in New Zealand.

After recovering from extreme exhaustion, and some surgery to remove a few pounds of sand from his stomach (he mistook it for snow), the Zoo he was taken to fitted him with a tracking device and sent him on his way.

And now that tracking device has stopped sending a signal.

It was supposed to send a signal to a satellite every time he broke the surface of the water, but the tracker has been silent since
September 9th.

It is possible the tracker has fallen off… or that he’s been eaten.

Emperor penguins have natural predators like sharks, killer whales and seals, so it’s very possible he might not have made it back home.

The satellite company that was tracking him has released a statement, saying:

"A signal from the satellite transmitter that was attached to Happy Feet has not been received since Friday 9 September 2011, NZ time.

This leads to the conclusion that either the satellite transmitter has detached or an unknown event has prevented Happy Feet from resurfacing.

As we expect many people are, the team at Sirtrack are disappointed that we are unable to track Happy Feet's progress any further. We have enjoyed being part of this project and hope that Happy Feet is making his way home.”

Let’s hope Happy Feet just lost his tracking device and is already back home, sliding down the snowy slopes of Antarctica.

Tom Cruise Signs Up For H.P. Lovecraft Horror Flick!

This should be an inneresting change of pace for him!

Tom Cruise has reportedly signed to star in the Guillermo del Toro directed horror film At The Mountains of Madness, which is based on the H.P. Lovecraft novel of the same name!

The story allegedly focus on a geologist named William Dyer, who, during a expedition to Antarctica, discovers the fossils of an previously unheard of race of creatures! We have a feeling that hilarity does not ensue.

Frequent del Toro collaborator Ron Pearlman is also in talks to appear in the film as a "dog-sled guy."

Nice! Being vaguely familiar with Lovecraft's work and knowing what del Toro is capable of, we're pretty sure that this one is going to be all kinds of effed up and SCARY!

Which is an exciting prospect!

What do U think?? Will U go see At The Mountains of Madness?
