It's been two years since Michael Jace shot his wife, and now new information is revealed as the case sees its day in court this week.
According to transcripts from The Shield actor's interview with detectives released during trial on Thursday, the 53-year-old said he never intended to kill April Jace when he shot her "in the leg" in front of their sons at their home back in 2014.
Jace told investigators:
"I was just angry. All I intended to do was shoot her in the leg. And then I shot her in the leg and that was it."
We're not sure exactly what he was expecting would happen when he shot her…
As evidence later showed, April was actually shot three times; once in the back and twice in the legs. According to CBS, the final shots were fired in the family's home — within sight of the couple's children who were then ages eight and five.
So so sad.
The eldest son testified in court this week saying during the shooting he heard his father tell his mother, who was an avid runner:
"If you like running, then run to heaven"
OMG — terrifying!!!
The actor's attorney is arguing that his client was upset because he suspected April was having an affair and wanted a divorce. His late wife had denied cheating in text messages before her murder.
At the time of the attack, Jace told detectives:
"I just ruined lives. Four lives. I mean, you could put the needle in my arm right now and be done. I'm fine with that."
But alas — he pleaded not guilty, which is why the murder trial is ongoing.
If convicted of first-degree murder, he could face 50 years to life in prison.
We'll keep you updated as the case progresses.
