The Robot Olympics Are What We Need

robot-olympics-darpa.jpg

To be honest with all you guys, we're only covering the human Olympics because it doesn't happen very often.

We'd much rather be covering the ROBOT OLYMPICS.

Plus, instead of medals that collect dust later in their lives, these robots will be fighting for lots of money: $2 million.

It's call The Robotics Challenge, and is from the Pentagon’s military research arm DARPA (short for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency). Apparently it's happening in October, and is open to people all over the world.

To win, you have to demonstrate robotic capabilities of the future that could someday support the Defense Department’s humanitarian mission: disaster relief, providing aid to victims and running evacuation operations.

So don't bring your Terminators.

Here are some of the tasks:

- Challenged to drive a utility vehicle like an ATV and to master its controls, from the ignition and brakes through to steering.
- Walk on uneven ground and navigate debris in their path, or clear an obstruction from a doorway and open it.
- Be able to break through a concrete wall to locate and then fix a leaking pipe.
- Fine motor skills will also be tested, such as possibly removing and then replacing a small pump and climbing a ladder followed by successfully getting across a catwalk.

One of the major things is adaptability. This is important, because the complexity of any upcoming disaster cannot be entirely anticipated. Things like learning a new tool to help with an unforeseen event would fit this.

Both hardware and software developers are welcome!

So cool! Good luck, everyone!

Science! Science! Science!

Anne Hathaway Is Ca(s)t-Woman!

anne-heathay-cast-girl.jpg

Oh no!

What happened?

Anne Hathaway was spotted walking through Brooklyn with her fiance Adam Shulman in a pretty hat, pulled low and her arm in a sling!

We knew she was hurt, as we previously mentioned, but we didn't know how badly.

She's got her cast all dressed up in a pretty sling, so at least she's being festive with her injury, which means it can't be too awful, right?

She's not saying how she hurt it, so we hope it's nothing serious and that she's not in pain.

Also, we apologize for the corny Ca(s)t-woman joke. (Because she's playing Cat-woman in The Dark Knight Rises! Get it??)

Anywayz, feel better, gurl!

Man Implants Magnets In His Arm To Hold iPod

Dave Hurban, from Newfield, N.J., was a tattoo artist who must've gotten tired of wristbands.

So he implanted four magnets in his left forearm to hold his iPod Nano in place.

What's crazy (other than all of this) is that he did it all himself!

Now that it's done he can swing his arm around and even jog without it falling off. He said:

"I actually am the inventor of the strapless watch."

What's next? Wireless earbuds implanted into the ears?

Check out the video (above) to watch him install the magnets.

WARNING: The video isn't crazzzy graphic but we wouldn't watch it while eating.

Rihanna Health Scare: Needs IV Drip??

Rihanna Drip

This is the PERFECT example as to why you don't post a pic like this without an explanation!

Rihanna tweeted this picture (above) of her arm receiving an IV drip of some sort. With no caption. No comment.

Which makes us worry!

Gurl, are you okay??

Apparently she was well enough to board a plane from NY to LA a few hours later, so we hope this isn't just some new celeb health fad. We totally don't think it is.

But until she tells us, there's nothing we can really do BUT worry!

Hope you're feeling better, RiRi!

Jessica Alba Debuts Some SERIOUS New Ink!

jessica-alba-temporary-tattoo

Or so she'd like us to think!

Tricky tricky Jessica Alba!

The actress was spotted enjoying some beautiful El Lay weather yesterday in the park with daughters Honor and Haven Warren, and very noticeably was sporting a tattoo of roses on her upper left arm!

Ch-ch-check her out (above)!

Luckily, however, it appears that the ink is only
