Jason Bateman Offers Up Apology For Tone Deaf Jeffrey Tambor Defense: 'I Realize That I Was Wrong Here'

jason bateman apologizes for jeffrey tambor defense

Jason Bateman has backtracked his defense of Jeffrey Tambor.

As we previously reported, the Arrested Development star was dragged on Twitter after he seemingly excused his TV dad's past temperamental behavior during a New York Times interview with his castmates. Per Tambor himself, he and onscreen wife Jessica Walter once had a major "blowout" due to his temper.

Although the ousted Transparent performer "profusely… apologized" to Miz Walter, it's clear that this experience still resonates deeply with the industry vet, as it's said she addressed the experience "through tears" during the Times sit down. To make matters worse, her costars — including Bateman, David Cross, and Will Arnett — responded to the tense conversation by cracking jokes and uttering excuses for Tambor.

Hence, this is why Bateman and co. were called out on social media for being tone deaf and inconsiderate AF! In an attempt to squash the controversy, the Ozark actor has since taken to Twitter to apologize.

He wrote in a series of tweets:

Twitter SLAMS Jason Bateman For Defending Jeffrey Tambor In Same Interview Where Jessica Walter Cries Over Verbal Harassment Claims

Filed under: Icky Icky PooTV NewsWill ArnettNetflixControversy

On Wednesday, the New York Times published its interview with the cast of Arrested Development where Jason Bateman defends Jeffrey Tambor's alleged temperamental behavior, and Jessica Walter cries over his alleged verbal abuse on the set of their show.

(In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tambor had brought up a "blowout" he had with Walter.)

In this Q&A with The Times — which also included cast members David Cross, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat, and Will Arnett — Bateman seemed to justify his TV dad's "temper" after being asked how likely the cast would be to hire someone with admitted anger issues.

Jeffrey Tambor Gives First Full Interview Since Sexual Misconduct Accusations Surfaced On Transparent — And It's Already Receiving Criticism

no title

There's a LOT to digest in THR's profile of Jeffrey Tambor — his first full interview granted since he was let go from Transparent after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced.

Above all, though, we can certainly say Tambor is still fighting the characterizations that what he did was sexual misconduct; to read the long, full piece itself would have you realizing Tambor far more wants to be seen as an actor difficult to work with than an alleged sexual predator.

So to that end, some highlights.

First, Tambor very much disputes the characterization from Van Barnes that he watched her sleeping naked — an accusation Van again publicly levied during Megyn Kelly's daytime talk show recently.

From the THR profile, Tambor responded to the allegation (below):

In an interview with AM New York this week, David Cross said that he and some other cast members of the cult comedy still believe in Tambor, revealing:

"I can't speak for everybody, but I know there are a number of us who stand behind him — from the limited amount we know, we stand behind Jeffrey — and I am one of them."

As we reported, the 73-year-old actor was livid about being fired from the groundbreaking Amazon series after the streamer launched an investigation into sexual harassment claims made against the actor by guest star Trace Lysette and a former assistant.

Tambor said he was "profoundly disappointed" by the way Amazon and series creator Jill Soloway handled investigating the "false accusations."

Cross seemed to agree in his Monday interview, continuing:
