A Canadian couple of 62 years has been forced to see each other only every other day because they were admitted into separate nursing homes.
For the past eight months, Wolf and Anita Gottschalk of Surrey, B.C. have been forced to live apart and endure multiple heartbreaking goodbyes throughout the week.
The couple's granddaughter Ashley Bartyik is usually the one who drives the near hour-long commute multiple times a week so her 81-year-old grandmother can see her beloved 83-year-old husband — who has been diagnosed with lymphoma, as well as dementia.
Frustrated over the situation — which is due to "delays of our healthcare system" — the 29-year-old shared a photo of one of her grandparents' many emotional goodbyes on Facebook, writing:
