For anyone who doubted for a second why Audra McDonald took home her win tonight at the 2012 Tony Awards, look NO FURTHER than this!
Ch-ch-check out the actress, alongside co-stars Norm Lewis and David Alan Grier, absolutely KILLING a medley of tunes for The Gershwins' Porgy & Bess, featuring Summertime, I Got Plenty O' Nuttin', and It Ain't Necessarily So (above)!
Did the winner of the 2012 Tony Award for Best Performance By An Actress in a Leading Role in a Play just hit on her presenter, Christopher Plummer?!
Which is exactly what happened when Nina Arianda took home her first Tony for Her work in Venus in Fur!
However, when Audra McDonald was called to the stage to accept her Award for Best Performance By An Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for Porgy & Bess, her acceptance speech was slightly more emotional, as she thanked the Theatre for helping her find her place as young person, and how grateful she is for her family and children!
The actress won the 2012 Tony Award for Best Performance By An Actress In A Featured Role In A Musical for her work in Nice Work If You Can Get It, beating out Elizabeth A. Davis, Jayne Houdyshell, Jessie Mueller, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph!
We had the pleasure and privilege of watching Porgy and Bess on Broadway Tuesday night, or as we jokingly told our friend - Porgy And The Coke Harlot!
The show was so pleasurable on so many levels! Hearing a full orchestra on Broadway is divine! But, what was most spectacular were those voices! And the performances!
EVERYONE in the cast was truly truly astounding! Even David Alan Grier, whom we only knew from In Living Color but has a great voice and stellar acting chops!
As the lead characters, Norm Lewis and Audra McDonald were masterful! Both of them! We just sat there in awe! Both of them!!!
McDonald's part is so vocally challenging! And she makes it seem effortless! So exquisitely controlled and passionate! We don't know how she does it for that many shows a week!
It was such a treat to get to see her live! The last thing we saw her in was Ragtime a hella long time ago! And the last time we had the pleasure of seeing Lewis on Broadway was when he was in Side Show, which is one of our top 3 musicals of all time!
The entire supporting cast was splendid as well!
Changes were made to the Gershwin classic, at the behest of the estate, and we are glad. There is no "happy ending", though it does feel more upbeat than the original. And, thankfully, instead of the four hour running time, this version was trimmed to a little less than three hours.
Three magnificent, drama-filled hours of musicality and beauty!
Porgy And Bess is a must-see! Congratulations to Audra McDonald and Norm Lewis on their very well-deserved Tony nominations!
So, Mama June either wants back on TV or she wants her money!
The matriarch's lawyer explained that June and the whole family are ready to fire up the show again, and if TLC doesn't give them the same treatment as the Duggars, then they think they'll have no problem getting $1 million in court.
They gave the demand on Friday and will wait a week to see what happens.
Are U interested in watching either of these shows anymore???
