New Details — And Unanswered Questions — Emerge In Investigation Of The Walking Dead Stuntman's Death

How does a routine fall lead to the death of an experienced stuntman?

That's what Georgia police are investigating after the tragic death of stunt performer John Bernecker, who died on July 12 after plummeting headfirst from a 22-foot balcony on the set of The Walking Dead.

Capt. John Kennedy has been assigned the case through the Coweta County Sheriff's Office, which has been instructed to "freeze" all provision of investigation materials to the media amid the probe.

Local law enforcement ran into trouble right after the incident. Officials failed to interview stunt coordinator Monty L. Simons on the scene as most crewmembers had been instructed to leave within minutes of the accident.

Responding officer Deputy Sheriff J.P. Traylor was also unable to interview TWD's first assistant director on the episode, the person who generally is responsible for set safety.

Instead, Traylor was able to speak with only two of those present: second assistant director Matthew Goodwin and actor Austin Amelio, who was also on the balcony during the fall.

Bernecker's girlfriend Jennifer Cocker, a fellow stunt performer, has questioned Amelio's presence on the balcony, noting it was the wrong move to "put a super professional stuntman with an inexperienced actor who doesn't know what he's doing."

But bigger issues are still being called into question, like why set photos show a balcony without any

So heartbreaking.

All the tragedy on The Walking Dead is supposed to be ridiculous and post-apocalyptic, but this week it was all too real.

After the passing of stuntman John Bernecker, who was reportedly rehearsing a fall from a balcony and slipped, the cast of the Atlanta-based show has taken to social media to send their condolences (below).

Meanwhile Bernecker's girlfriend, fellow stuntwoman Jennifer Cocker, has some very specific ideas about who's at fault. She told TMZ:

"Sets need to be safer. There has to be a prerequisite not to put a super professional stuntman with an inexperienced actor who doesn't know what he's doing."

The actor with whom Bernecker was working was Austin Amelio, who plays Dwight on the show. He reportedly told police afterward that Bernecker said he was nervous and had never done a drop from so high.

Currently both SAG-AFTRA and OSHA are investigating the accident.

Amelio took to Twitter this afternoon to write:

It's been over four months since The Walking Dead's anticlimactic season finale which teased the death of a MAJOR character at the hands of Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Neegan!

While there has been some potential evidence of a couple characters that might be safe from death, the show dropped a trailer at San Diego Comic-Con that reminded anyone could bite the dust — and now we're afraid it might be Norman Reedus' Daryl Dixon!

In a new clip that that was shown on Talking Dead, Dwight, played by Austin Amelio, is seen riding Daryl's bike trying to escape some walkers — and it looks like he's wearing the fan favorite character's jacket too! DID SOMETHING HAPPEN TO DIXON?!

After airing the clip, TD's host, Chris Hardwick, read a statement from executive producer Scott M. Gimple saying:

"You know the beginning, and it's almost here, so enjoy your summer because the beginning is someone's end. But it is a beginning. What happens in episode one will shatter the lives of those who survive and will rend the narrative into different trajectories in which we will see our characters in completely new situations, torn from the pages of the comic and remixed in theWalking Dead remixinator 5000."

Ch-ch-check out the clip for yourself (below) and let us know if you think Norman's character is really a goner!

Well, that was a waste of 90 minutes…

The Walking Dead set itself up to have one of the most terrifying episodes of modern television, but instead they just pissed off all their fans with a finale that killed…

Well, we'll get to that.

[SPOILER ALERT]

The episode began with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) enlisting most of Alexandria's well-known faces to get Maggie (Lauren Cohan) to Hilltop to see a doctor.

Unfortunately, the Saviors — who were ready for some payback after their own had been killed — had every single road blocked off.

Rick, Maggie, Carl (Chandler Riggs), Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), and Aaron (Ross Marquand) drove around for over an hour in their RV looking for a way out before they eventually
