Uber-Skinny Models To Be Banned In Australia!

Australia's Next Top Model judges are not going to be happy about this!

The Australian Federal Government is taking on their country's body image issues by implementing tougher restrictions and even bans against super thin models, making it the first in the world to do so.

Over the next six months a panel of health experts will be fine tuning a criteria that modeling agencies, magazines and fashion labels will be required to meet in order to be awarded the body image-friendly symbol.

Some of the criteria they'll have to follow includes:

Disclose when images have been retouched and refrain from enhancing photographs in a way that changes a person's body shape, for example, lengthening their legs or trimming their waist, or removing freckles, lines and other distinguishing marks.

Only use models aged 16 or older to model adult clothes - both on catwalks and in print.

Refrain from using models who are very thin - or male models who are excessively muscular.

Stocking clothing in a wide variety of sizes in shops to reflect the demand from customers.

Using a broad range of body shapes, sizes and ethnicities in editorial and advertising.

Not promoting rapid weight loss, cosmetic surgery, excessive exercising or any advertisements or editorial content that may promote a negative body image.

The land down under, which has previously snubbed plus-size models during fashion week, hopes the new rules will stop glamorization of ultra-thin and unhealthy women that has lead others to develop eating disorders.

We think it's a great idea! Although we have a feeling there will some kind of resistance from agencies and fashion labels.

Thoughts???

Australia Continues Its Crusade Against Non-Pin Thin Models!

What is with Australia and plus-size or even regular sized models!?

A contestant on this season's Australia's Next Top Model says producers asked contestants to lose weight!

Sounds like they were influenced by ANTM judge Charlotte Dawson who previously said there's no market for plus-size models in Oz.

16 year old contestant Alison Boxer, weighs 121 pounds, and is underweight by Body Mass Index standards, was told she needed to shed "centimeters from her thighs".

A rep from Fox8 isn't even denying the claim, saying Alison was also told to lose weight around her waist!

Seriously!?

The show's talent scout Lizzi Leighton Clark says the show doesn't look for specific body shapes, but adds "at the end of the day you have to be tall and skinny to be a model. Hopefully, we have a range of body shapes, faces and personalities, but tall and slim is what works."

Wow.

Do they not realize it's 2010 and non-emaciated models can get plenty of jobs? Just look at Laura Stone and Crystal Renn!

We think it's time for this show to get a Tyra Banks intervention!
