Creator Of Popular Character 'Dame Edna' Makes A Horrific Claim About The Transgender Community & Slams Caitlyn Jenner In The Process
In a recent interview, the creator of the popular Dame Edna character Barry Humphries made disgusting comments about the transgender community and Caitlyn Jenner. The remarks were made in support of Germaine Greer, an Australian and feminist writer who likened Cait's transformation to "self-mutilation".
Ugh, so gross and misinformed!
What's particularly sad about these comments is the likability and popularity of Dame Edna, a character Barry has played since 1955. While Edna makes plenty of remarks on popular culture, her commentary is meant to be lighthearted and comedic. Sadly, there's nothing playful about this slander from the creator:
"I agree with Germaine! You're a mutilated man, that's all. Self-mutilation, what's all this carry on? Caitlyn Jenner – what a publicity-seeking ratbag. It's all given the stamp – not of respectability, but authenticity or something. If you criticise anything you're racist or sexist or homophobic."
Yikes! It's clear Humphries is way off the mark to say the least.
What's even more bizarre about this situation is a post Dame shared at the time of Jenner's Vanity Fair cover — check it out (below)!
