NY Yankees Star Alex Rodriguez Retiring From Baseball To Be A Full-Time Dad!

no title

It's the end of the A-Rod era as Alex Rodriguez announced his retirement from the MLB on Wednesday.

The New York Yankees third baseman has been playing pro for two decades, much of that dominating the sport, with a career 3,070 hits and 2,055 RBIs.

But 2017, the final year of his $275 million 10-year contract, will also mark his last at bat. He told ESPN:

"I won't play after next year. I've really enjoyed my time. For me, it is time for me to go home and be dad."

Awww! Lucky kids!

Interesting note for his final season: with 687 career home runs, the 40-year-old needs only 28 to catch Babe Ruth as third all-time home run leader behind only Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds.

Good luck, A-Rod!

Normally athletes who step away from a sport do so because of injury, or old age as they just can't keep up anymore.

In LaRoche's case, the 36-year-old has decided to quite because the White Sox asked him to decrease the amount of time he brings his 14-year-old son Drake into the clubhouse!

The MLB player announced his retirement via Twitter as he shared:

This is terrifying — but SO good on the dad for doing what he did!

Shaun Cunningham was at a spring training baseball game in Bradenton, Florida on Monday with his eight-year-old son, Landon.

They were there to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates and Atlanta Braves get ready for the MLB season in a few weeks — but they got a whole lot more!

Sitting down the first base line, Cunningham was watching as Landon snapped a picture on his phone to send to his grandmother — that's what kids do, after all — when Pirates outfielder Danny Ortiz was fooled on a swing at the plate.

Unfortunately, the bat slipped from Ortiz's hands and came flying right for the child!

Reacting quickly, Cunningham stuck his hand out to deflect the flying lumber, saving his son's face with INCHES to spare and inadvertently being the subject of a truly incredible set of pictures (above)!!!

The dad was pretty mellow about the experience, telling reporters:

With all the baby daddy drama with Future, Ciara and her NFL boyfriend, Russell Wilson, treated the singer's son, Future Jr., to an outing with the Los Angeles Dodgers!

And judging by all the pics the baseball team uploaded to their Twitter earlier this week, it seems they had an amazing time!

Not to mention, it also looked like Russell and little Future got some one-on-one time, with the pro football star showing the one-year-old around the baseball field.

SO cute!

Rapper Future probably won't be too happy to see these pics, and we're guessing that's why neither CiCi or Russ took to Instagram to post them.

Oh well. They can't help they make such a sweet couple!

Life is good right now for the Kansas City Royals.

The MLB team won the World Series last fall, handily beating out the San Francisco Giants, which means this season they're the defending world champs.

But can they defend against this bad PR move?

As a way to give back to the fans after such a successful summer, the Royals released their promotional schedule for the upcoming year, full of special events at the ballpark during baseball games.

One of those nights is Epilepsy Awareness Night, on August 5, during a game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Hey, that's great! Maybe the Royals will raise money for scientific research on epilepsy and do a bunch of other stuff to make it a fun, meaningful time at the ballpark.

The only problem? Well… it's what else they're doing on Epilepsy Awareness night that's maybe not so wise: FIREWORKS.

That's right. The baseball team is
