Bea Arthur WAS A Marine!

Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & True

bea arthur was a marine

Check out the photo (above) which was taken shortly after Bea Arthur's enlistment into the Marines Corps.

You heard us right! According to records, our golden girl spent 30 months in the Marine Corps, as a Women's Reserve member who drove a truck AND was a typist!

Not only was she a Marine, but she was intense…even by Marine standards!

Personality appraisal sheets from her enlistment interviews described her as "Argumentative" and "Over agressive," and her interviewer wrote that she was "officious - but probably a good worker - if she has her own way!" LOLs.

We suppose being "over aggressive" must be a good thing in the Marines, because Arthur moved up the ranks to staff sergeant, which was her final rank until she was honorably discharged in Sept 1945. Damn girl, you really were intense.

This gets even MORE hardcore, though. According to her single "misconduct report" filed against her in 1944, she was given reduced pay during a period while stationed in Cherry Point, North Carolina, because she was left incapacitated for duty for five weeks after contracting a venereal disease!

Wow, Bea. You were REALLY in the Marines and you were REALLY hardcore!

What do U think about Bea's Marine history?

PETA Uses Bea Arthur In New Ad

bea_arthur_peta_e.jpg

This is cringe-worthy!

PETA is using the image of deceased Golden Girl Bea Arthur in their anti-chicken cruelty ad.

The animal rights organization claims Bea left money to them in her will. If it's true, we hope they at least got her family's permission to use her for the campaign!

Friends STILL Talking About Farrah's Oscar Snub!!

beafarrah__optjb__optjb.jpg

All right, all right, we agree that it was TOTALLY effed up, but nothing can be done now, so let's get off the press circuit and try to let it go, people!!

Friends of Farrah Fawcett are still up in arms about the late actress's Oscar snub this year and, despite a half-assed apology from Academy bosses, are still speaking out publicly about what they are calling "unforgivable!"

Alana Stewart Hamilton, a producer of the documentary Farrah's Story, says:

"I think they are saying they are sorry that family members and friends are upset. It is not just family members and friends. I said that to Mr. Davis, in all due respect, today. I said, it is millions of fans. The minute she was not part of that memorial, it started on Twitter. The emails I've gotten, people are outraged by it…I just want to make one point. In all due respect, Michael Jackson is a huge music icon, but I believe he only did one movie."

Candy Spelling - WTF? - is also not happy about the snub and says:

"I was very surprised. I also was surprised with Jean Barry and Bea Arthur. Bea Arthur was excluded. She was in at Annie Mame, with Lucille Ball, not the original one. She did another film or two. Because she was so well known as Maude and Golden Girls, they thought she was more television."

We honestly sympathize. But we think it's time to stop using this as an excuse to get press.

It sucks that they did it, but we think everyone just needs to go back to honoring Farrah's memory and eff the Academy.

What do U think?? Is it time to let Farrah's Oscar snub go??

Academy Responds To Farrah/Bea Oscar Snubs!

Filed under: Icky Icky PooR.I.P.AwardzFarrah Fawcett

beafarrah__optjb.jpg

We don't think we're alone when we say that it's pretty shocking that the Academy Awards left out Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur from the ceremony's Memorial Montage, which pays tribute to the stars who passed away during the year.

It must be causing quite a stir, because Bruce Davis, the executive director of the Academy, has released a statement attempting to justify the snub:

"It is the single most troubling element of the Oscar show every year. Because more people die each year than can possibly be included in that segment. You are dropping people who the public knows. It's just not comfortable."

We think that if they're going to run over the time limit, as they do EVERY YEAR, they might as well spend the extra time including everyone in the tribute!!

That's much more appropriate than 20 minute introductions to categories from celebrities faux-fawning over how great their nominated co-stars are!!

Friend Outraged Over Farrah Oscar Snub!

ap8407060261jb__optjb__opt.jpg

And rightly so!

Farrah Fawcett's close friend and filmmaker Craig Nevius wants the Academy to issue a public apology for omitting Farrah during the memorial montage during the Oscars last night.

He says:

"Farrah's shocking omission from the 'In Memoriam' montage on the Oscars isn't a reflection of Farrah. It's a reflection of the producers and of the Academy itself. After all, this is a broadcast - as opposed to a 'production' - that has become all about shuffling winners on and off stage and cutting off acceptance speeches in order to make more air time for jokes without punchlines and scripted spontaneity the likes of which we haven't seen since vaudeville.

"They should be ashamed of themselves and owe a public apology in the name of Farrah Fawcett."

The Academy has responded to the Farrah outrage citing that it's not possible to pay tribute to every star who passed away over the last year, but we think that's bullshiz!

They definitely should have made room for Farrah (AND Bea Arthur)!

What do U think?

The Biggest Snub At The Oscars!

beafarrah.jpg

Anyone who watched carefully during the Oscar telecast last night knows exactly what we are going to talk about.

During the In Memoriam tribute last night, which remembers all the stars we have lost over the past year, two very honorable and distinguished actresses were overlooked.

Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur!

Though one could argue that these ladies were primarily TV actresses, both did have parts in some lesser known films. Besides, Michael Jackson got thrown in there and off-hand, we can only think of one movie he has been in!

You've got a lot of explaining to do Academy!
