For those of you who were confused as to why Laura Linney was not on hand to personally accept her Golden Globe for 'Best Actress In A TV Series' at Sunday's ceremony, we're very sad to report that The Big C actress' father, playwright Romulus Linney, passed away the night prior after a battle with lung cancer.

He was 80 years old.

Our thoughts are with Laura and her family during this tough time.
