Starbucks kinda has a lock on the whole coffee thing, so now they've set their sights on less bitter beverages.

Starbucks is planning on opening three more Evolution Fresh Inc. juice stores in addition to the one they already opened in Washington.

They're even expanding distribution of their ready-to-drink bottles of Evolution juice to supermarkets.

Apparently premium juices are "in."

Starbucks is trying to diversify as more and more places are serving premium coffees.

One Evolution store will open in San Fran with two opening in Seattle.

One Seattle store opens this Friday, the other two this fall.

Get ya juice on!

Just One Sugary Drink A Day Increases Risk For Heart Disease By 20%

We have never been happier that we swapped soda and gatorade for good old fashioned H20!

The Harvard School of Public Health has determined that men who drink one sugar-sweetened beverage daily have a 20% higher risk of coronary heart disease than men who drink none.

Researchers came to this alarming conclusion even AFTER accounting for risk factors like smoking, sedentary lifestyle, alcohol use and family history.

Soda And Other Sugary Drinks May Increase A Woman's Heart Disease Risk

Even if you're not trying to lose weight, it may not be a good idea to drink too many sugary beverages.

A new study has found that two or more sugar-sweetened beverages a day may boost a woman's risk for developing heart disease and diabetes.

Middle-aged women who drank two or more sugary drinks a day compared to just one were almost four times as likely to have high levels of dangerous blood fats called triglycerides and impaired blood sugar levels — often referred to as prediabetes.

Researchers also found women who specifically drank two or more sodas a day had more belly fat, but didn't necessarily weigh more.

Still, belly fat can pose as a greater health risk than fat in other areas of the body by producing hormones and other substances that affect blood pressure, cholesterol and insulin production.

Medical experts agree that limiting or eliminating sugary drinks like soda from our diet is one of the easiest ways to improve our health, as one cardiologist explained:

"Our soda habit is something we have total control over. There are a lot of things that keep us healthy that are hard work and difficult, but cutting back on sweetened drinks isn't one of them. We are not talking about doing an hour of exercise or buying expensive organic foods. Simple dietary choices can have a critical role in determining risk for cardiovascular disease."

Innerestingly enough, men seem to excluded from this risk category. Nobody seems to completely agree why, but it could have something to do with body mass and caloric intake.

Since women's bodies typically do not require as many calories as men's to run efficiently, researchers suggest a 130-calorie soda accounts for a bigger chunk of a woman's daily energy.

Just TWO Sugary Drinks A Day Can Dull Taste Buds

And lead to drinking more calories!

New research from the UK suggests that drinking sugary beverages may begin a "vicious cycle" that can lead to obesity!

A new study has found evidence that drinking just TWO sugary beverages a day can dull taste buds within a month, leaving us hungry for high-calorie, sugar-laden food!

This alarming news was discovered after researchers asked lean and obese people to rate their perception and enjoyment of sweet and salty tastes. The obese participants in the study tended to rate identical drinks as less sweet than the lean ones did.

THEN they asked lean people, who usually did not consume sugary drinks, to consume a sugary drink twice a day for one month after their initial sensitivity was tested. After being re-tested a month later, their sensitivity to sweet tastes and conscious enjoyment of them had dulled.

Study authors found the results of the study to be alarming and think they may help explain the rising levels of obesity and diabetes across the world, saying:

"We are heading for a health disaster with rising obesity levels and the increasing incidence of type 2 diabetes. From our research it is clear to see how this situation may have created a cycle of sweet food and drink consumption. As taste satisfaction levels drop; the more sweet foods are consumed, contributing to these problems."

If this isn't encouragement to lay off of soda for a while, we don't know what is!

We've always said eliminating sugary beverages out of your diet and replacing them with water is a great way to cut down on caloric intake, but it might save your tastebuds too!
