Boa Constrictors Don't Stop Squeezing Until Your Heart Stops

boa_constrictor-killer-snake-man.jpg

Boa constrictors have a pretty cool (or terrifying) trick up their sleeve.

They can tell when its prey's heart has stopped beating.

Scary!

When it comes to all the different ways nature has cooked up for an animal to kill its prey, constricting is one of the most energy inefficient.

Imagine flexing every muscle in your body as hard as you can until someone dies. Sounds exhausting.

Well it is REALLY exhausting, so it helps the boa to know when they can stop squeezing so as not to waste any energy.

Researchers found this out by simulating heart beats in rat cadavers and they noticed the snakes always let go shortly after they shut off the heartbeat.

So if you ever get attacked by a boa, all you have to do is stop your heart until they let go, then restart it and run away before it starts eating you.

LOLz!

Slash Misses His Pet Snake

Slash Visits boa

Cute..?

Rocker Slash paid a visit to the Los Angeles Zoo Friday to check in on the boa constrictor he donated years ago.

The former Guns N' Roses star handed over his beloved snake after becoming a family man - because he feared the boa might attack his kids.

In a tweet to fans on Friday, the guitarist wrote,

"Just got back from the LA Zoo. Took pix with a few reptiles. Including my pet Boa Constrictor I donated to the zoo yrs ago. He's a Big sweetheart!"

We're sure he's nice, but when it comes to zoo snakes, our hearts belong to @bronxzoocobra!

Snakes On A Train!

Snake found on a train

This incident wasn't nearly as thrilling as a Samuel L. Jackson movie, but still kind of scary!

A Boston woman lost her Dumeril's boa constrictor, named Penelope, while riding a city transit train on January 7th and it has just been found almost a month later on the same train.

The details are a little fuzzy as to exactly how the woman managed to lose her snake in the first place, but she says she lost it while riding with the reptile around her neck.

After checking Penelope several times during the ride, the snake suddenly disappeared!

We're a little confused as to how a snake manages to just slither away unnoticed while wrapped around a neck, but hey, it happens.

The woman searched the train with staff, but had no luck finding it.

We can only imagine passengers reaction when Penelope showed up on a Red Line train on Thursday!

After the sighting, the train was taken out of service and searched, during which a train attendant found poor Penelope who is said to be in good health.

Crazzyyy! We'd freak out if we saw a random snake just hanging out on a train!

What about U?
