Boston Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Sentenced To Death

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been sentenced to death for his role in the deadly 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

Closing arguments in the 21-year-old's case were made Wednesday, and a jury came to the decision on Friday.

The Boston Bomber was 19 years old when he and his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev planted explosive devices near the race's finish line. Three people were killed and hundreds others were wounded in the attack. Tamerlan was killed in the ensuing manhunt, as well as a police officer.

Last month, Dzohkhar was convicted of all 30 charges filed against him, including four counts of murder. 17 of the charges carried the death penalty.

During the trial, dozens of witnesses — many of whom were maimed or mutilated in the bombing — testified.

The defense argued that Dzhokhar was brainwashed by Tamerlan and asked for clemency, while the prosecution argued that he was a terrorist who deserves the death penalty.

The family of the youngest fatality — 8-year-old Martin Richard — would prefer Dzohkhar spend life in jail. Jane Richard, Martin's sister, lost a leg. Denise Richard, Martin's mom, was partially blinded.

The family is releasing an essay today in the Boston Globe, which is excerpted below:

The bombing attack left three people dead and over 260 people injured in the awful events that transpired in April 2013.

While his verdicts on other other counts are still being read, it only took jurors just over 12 hours divided over the span of two days.

Dzhokhar apparently kept his hands folded while the guilty verdicts were being handed down.

We'll keep you posted as more information comes in.

Dias Kadyrbayev and Azamat Tazhayakov, students from Kazakhstan and college friends of the accused Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, were just indicted by a grand jury on charges of obstruction of justice today, according to the U.S. Attorney's office for Massachusetts.

The pair are being accused of removing Dzhokhar's backpack containing fireworks, and his laptop from his dorm room, after the FBI released pictures of Dzhokhar and his brother in order to discover their identities.

Dias and Azamat already potentially face 5 years in prison, having been previously charged with conspiracy, and if convicted of obstruction of justice for helping to hide evidence, they could serve an additional 20 years.

The two are currently in federal custody and await trial.

This news reminds us of that sad day in April, a tragedy that still is so fresh in our minds and hearts. So sad.

7-Eleven BANS The Rolling Stone Boston Bomber Issue Too!!

rolling stone dzhokhar tsarnaev 7 eleven cvs cover ban boycott

By now, you know our stance on Rolling Stone's decision to put Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (one of the Boston Bombers) on the cover of their magazine: they had every right to do it, but that doesn't mean they should have.

First we heard that CVS was taking a stand against the insensitive placement, one that is usually an honor for those who are lucky enough to get on the cover because it's a sign of having 'made it' to fame. Now, we're hearing that the magazine has been pulled out of nearly 2,000 7-Eleven stores, with more on the horizon.
